What are you doing chasing cryptids in Fallout 76? Another camp needs to be turned into a settlement. But in all seriousness, you can pick whichever spot you fancy in the game. It’s just that some camp locations in Fallout 76 are more picturesque or safer from nuclear annihilation. You can also earn a passive bottle cap income from some of them if you set up vending machines. Without further ado, these are the best camp locations in Fallout 76 which you’ll want to turn into settlements, I’ll mark it on your map.

Around The Whitespring Station

You’ll usually want something flat and has good foot traffic while also being relatively safe. Hence, the recommendation goes to The Whitespring Station area for ticking those checkboxes. Although by now, you might find it pretty populated. The Whitespring Golf Club is a popular spot.

You can always server-hop to seek out vacancies or just block another player’s camp. The Whitespring Station itself also has a nearby vendor bot so you can keep checking for weapons and armor. More than anything, it’s near the center of everything on the map, making your trips in just about any direction shorter.

Near The Rusty Pick

The surrounding area is a dump and the atmosphere is gloomy with industrial garbage, but it’s convenient and just about any rushed base you build will fit right in. You don’t need something fancy and cozy. And since The Rusty Pick itself has merchants, you can bet that players will visit the spot quite frequently.

That’s a higher chance of checking out your camp or settlement and purchasing from your Vending Machine. The surrounding area is also one of the more level grounds in the Ash Heap region so you’ll find no trouble looking for a spot.

Beside Welch Station

For those who like to roam around without spending too many bottle caps, the surrounding area near Welch Station (also in Ash Heap) is a good alternative to The Rusty Pick. Being near the tracks, it allows you to fast travel frequently and more cheaply.

Because of this convenience, do expect Welch Station to be quite populated. You might want to pick the spot near Mount Blair Coffee Shack if you want an NPC company. Its inhabitant is a lone tabby cat named Murgle.

Near Pleasant Valley Station

Another train station, as usual. But this one is more effective for your usual needs since there’s water nearby and if you need acid, there’s a deposit that’s within a stone’s throw away. That means it’s the perfect spot for an ammo factory settlement.

Early in the game, ammo can be a problem for a lot of players who pick the automatic weapons in the character creation. So you might want to rush this spot once you get your bearings. As an added bonus, it’s also somewhat near the center of the map.

Near Foundation

Apparently, you can get really close to Foundation, usually just outside the wagon and the game might allow you to build a base. That’s assuming there’s no one in the spot yet. It’s a pretty efficient spot since there are lots of quests and daily quests in the Foundation itself.

Foundation is also the highest settlement in Appalachia– a great spot for when you’re into nuke sightseeing. Fast traveling is also free of charge. It used to be quite a dangerous area since Yao Guai and hordes of Scorched enemies but that has since been patched out.

Around The Crater

If you’re more of a Crater than a Foundation player, then the good news is that The Crater is also a free fast travel spot, making it an ideal location for a base. The surrounding area is decent enough and you can find some mini-plateaus and cliffs if you want a camp with a view.

Like the Foundation, The Crater is also a prime spot for quests and daily quests with lots of notable loot inside the settlement area. Do avoid the western part of the map since Radstags and Yao Guai might spawn there and raid your base.

Next to R&G Station

For anyone looking for a base that looks seamlessly integrated into a railyard, the R&G Station is a good spot. If you’re patient enough, you can build along the railyard and make the whole station your camp. The area is also relatively safe enough from high-level enemies.

There are several merchants in the area too for your window shopping or spending sprees. You can also get creative and make good use of the train cars and maybe elevate your base a bit. It’s less popular than the other stations, so you have a somewhat better chance of building here.

Seneca Rocks

Why settle for a camp when you can have a 360-degree-view mountain home in Appalachia? Seneca Rocks is the perfect spot for that. It’s one of the highest points in Fallout 76, and consequently, one of the best camp locations in the game. You can bet that no high-level enemy will trash this place.

Building it, however, is a Herculean effort and you might break your legs several times trying to get to a nice spot. If the mountaintop is occupied, however, you can always settle for the base. There are some flat and clean spots near the road.

Charleston Station

Charleston Station is one of the most controversial camp locations in Fallout 76 because it’s a hotspot for random events. Moreover, Charleston Station has a nearby water source and even a power plant and workshop in close proximity. That’s why it’s one of the most contested spots in the game.

So don’t be surprised to see it occupied most of the time. There’s always server hopping anyway. Charleston Station’s foot traffic is great for your Vending Machines and there are also plenty of vendor NPCs nearby to help you sell your stuff or lighten the load.

The Wayward

Speaking of foot traffic, you can’t beat the Wayward as the prime spot for Fallout 76. There will always be people nearby since it’s one of the earliest quest locations in the game and you’ll find plenty of new players roaming around the area.

This area is one of the best ways to solve your Bottle Cap problems. There’s water nearby as well since it’s next to a river. While it’s not quite in the middle of the map, I’ll still recommend building a base near The Wayward as your gateway to the northwestern quarter of the map.

Fallout 76 is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
