Unlike most other artistic mediums, when it comes to video games, replayability is a key concern. Most of the time, once you read or watch a novel or movie, you’re done with it. Video games have the unique quality of sticking around with players for tens if not hundreds to thousands of hours. While not all games truly push the limits of replayability and playtime, some have the uncanny ability to always pull players back to them. Whether it’s a replayable multiplayer game with repeatable quests or competitive matches or a single-player game with heavy mod support, some games never seem to get old. For anyone looking for something new to play, here are ten games that never get boring.

Skyrim

As many players know, Skyrim, in its base form, is already iconic for its massive amounts of replayable gameplay. Even without anything extra, players can expect hundreds of hours of fun from completing every quest and trying out various builds. When you add mods, Skyrim’s true potential is unleashed. There is so much community support for Skyrim that a thousand hours wouldn’t even be enough to start and make this game boring.

Super Mario Maker 2

For fans of 2D Mario games, one of the saddest parts of each entry is the length. Once you beat one of these platformers, you don’t really need to go back to it. Super Mario Maker 2 fixes this problem by giving you an unlimited number of levels. With the community adding an obscene amount of levels per day, with this entry, Mario fans will never get bored.

Satisfactory

Satisfactory is a game that has way to much content to be boring.

Automation/Factory games hold an interesting niche in the gaming community. When it comes to relaxing yet time-consuming experiences, this genre is perfect for all kinds of players. My personal favorite, Satisfactory, is a game that can easily occupy fans for hundreds of hours and never get boring. With new content coming frequently, Satisfactory will always be something I can always come back to.

League of Legends

League is toxic, but at least it's a game that is never boring.

When it comes to competitive multiplayer games, League of Legends takes the cake in terms of replayability. In League, there are so many different characters, items, and interactions that always give players a chance to find something new. Although the toxic community may be off-putting to some, there’s a reason players still keep playing.

Civilization

Civ is too long of a game to ever be boring.

For replayable turn-based strategy games, Civilization is the best game in terms of never getting boring. With matches taking 5+ hours, playing just one round is a huge commitment. There are a lot of different strategies in Civ that players can try out and tons of leaders, especially in the newest game, so players are already in for a bunch of matches. Pair that with the replayability of a board game with friends; you’ve got thousands of hours of fun.

Monster Hunter

Monster Hunter Rise is too intense and epic and is a game that will never be boring.

Next, we have Capcom’s classic series, Monster Hunter. One thing that gives games their replayability is a strong gameplay loop, as well as a sense of progression. Monster Hunter, especially the newer entries, has that in spades. Between monster hunts that already last 20 minutes to an hour and new tiers that challenge players around every turn, Monster Hunter is a series that always gives more to the player.

Hades

Hades is an amazing experience.

Rougelike games have all but perfected the formula of progression and replayability by combining permadeath and scaling difficulty. While many games, like Slay the Spire or Rogue Legacy, could fit on this list, Hades is arguably the most likely game to never become boring. Throughout the playthrough, players will always be challenged by new surprises, runs that become increasingly difficult, and weapon combinations that are sure to keep anyone occupied for a significant amount of time.

Minecraft

Minecraft is timeless.

It goes without saying that Minecraft has a lot of staying power in the gaming community. Due to the amount of creativity that goes into this sandbox experience, even after 12 years, Minecraft still remains relevant. With updates still releasing, tons of mod support, as well as fun servers and challenges, Minecraft is a replayable game that will never be boring.

Tetris

Tetris will always be a great experience.

Tetris is easily one of the most instantly recognizable games of all time. Despite not evolving much since its initial introduction, Tetris seems to have perfected the puzzle game formula first try. It’s super easy to get lost in a marathon or endless mode of Tetris without even realizing how much time has passed. Add onto that some fun multiplayer modes and you have a truly timeless experience.

World of Warcraft

WoW is one of the most fun games of all time.

Finally, World of Warcraft would have to be one of the least boring and most replayable games that we have available. This MMORPG, between all the expansions and content, has a seemingly endless amount of things to do. Between crafting, dungeons, PvP, and more, every player can find a niche playing WoW.
