Dark Souls III’s release date is almost here, marking the end of this much-beloved series. Ahead of this milestone, Publisher Bandai Namco has released the game’s cinematic opening.

It features a lot of images that have become synonymous with the series; like grotesque monsters, ruined civilizations, hulking knights, and lots of dust and ash. The series famously doesn’t have a clear storyline, but the trailer shows off its trademark scale. It also teases a plot revolving the destruction of a monarchy and the reclaiming of a crown.

This is meant to be the end of the Dark Souls trilogy, so From Software is ending the series in style. Dark Souls III will undoubtedly have the same difficult, frustrating combat that has defined the series, but will take what the studio learned during the development of Bloodborne to create a faster, tighter experience. This will include new classes, weapons, items, online features, and, of course, bosses.

The series started in 2009 with Demon souls on PS3 before going multiplatform with Dark souls in 2011. The franchise has been helmed by Hidetaka Miyazaki, who has risen to fame for creating the series signature look and difficulty. Last year, From Software released Bloodborne for PS4. It featured similar gameplay to the Souls series but created a new world and mythos.

Dark Souls III will release for Xbox One, PS4 and PC on April 12, 2016.
