Nintendo and The Pokemon Company continue to release a steady trickle of Pokemon Sun and Moon news. But today’sย new trailer offered up the most details yet.

The first big announcement offered up some changes to classic creatures. Apparently, the island of Alola is home to some monsters we all know very well, but their types and aesthetics are a little different. Exeggutor now has an incredibly long neck and is a grass/dragon type.

But the bigger change is that Vulpix and Ninetails – which were previously fire types – are now ice types, with the latter being ice/fairy. The last Alola formย presented was Sandshrew and Sandslash, which have made the jump to ice/steel type.

Another new additionย is ride-able Pokemon. In previous games using abilities like Fly or Surf would summon a strange silhouette that looked similar to a creature on your team, but it was always hard to tell. Now, using these abilities will summon a beautiful 3d model that your character will hop on and control through the waves, across mountain ridges, and through the bright blue sky above Alola. It looks as if each summonable Pokemon will also have a unique ability but it’s still unclear. What has been revealed is that this move is known as Pokeride, and exists outside of HMs. It is meant to allow you to use your Pokemon to traverse perilous terrain.

The previousย games, X & Y, introduced mega evolutions. Sun & Moon will see the introduction of Z-Moves. There is one Z-Move for every type and when they are activated they cover the screens in splashes of color and effects before delivering a devastating elemental blow.

The story was also touched on. No gyms were shown, but instead, it looks as if the toughest trainers on the island will be the trial captains that you meet on your rite of passage. Each rite of passage has the player completing different tasks with the end result being a battle against a fearsome totem Pokemon.

Gyms could still be present, but if this is the new story progression, it could signal a significant change in the series. Plenty of new Pokemon were also shown, each with designs that fit the locale while still maintaining the series’ signature style.
