As a series, Final Fantasy games stand independent from other entries. Each new Final Fantasy game features a unique cast of characters, stories, and worlds for players to discover. However, Final Fantasy entries still reference each other in some interesting ways. Continuing this pattern, Final Fantasy 16 is no different. So far, Final Fantasy 16 players have found plenty of secrets, references, and callbacks from earlier entries in the series. Here are the top five Final Fantasy 16 Easter Eggs for players to look out for.

5. References to Past Characters, Summons, & Chocobo

Overall, Final Fantasy games often include various elements that carry over between every entry. When Final Fantasy 16 was released players already started looking for these secrets and Easter Eggs, which include returning monsters, music, and names. First, a character named Cid appears in each Final Fantasy game. In Final Fantasy 16, he comes in the form of Cidolfus Telamon. Additionally, Chocobos return to FF16 though they take on a less goofy, and more majestic look than previous iterations. On top of this, many summons, like Ifrit and Phoenix, return in the form of massive creatures known as Eikons. Finally, Moogles once again appear, looking just as adorable as their first appearance in the series.

4. A Vivi Easter Egg Is Hidden In Final Fantasy 16

In Eastpool, many players have already stumbled upon one of Final Fantasy 16’s saddest references. For some reason, some players examined a specific scarecrow that on closer inspection resembles Final Fantasy’s Black Mage. These powerful casters have been an icon for the series since the very first game. However, this scarecrow really resembles one of the best characters of the Final Fantasy series, Vivi. For players who don’t know, Vivi is a young Black Mage from Final Fantasy 9. Seeing this scarecrow feels almost like a memorial for one of the saddest and best characters that Final Fantasy has to offer.

3. The Dragoon Pose Makes A Reappearance

Dragoons are one of the most famous classes in Final Fantasy, and once again return in Final Fantasy 16. These powerful warriors often wield large spears and jumping attacks that make them strong allies to have in battle. Some notable Dragoons in the series are Kain from FF4, Freya from FF9, and of course Final Fantasy 16’s Knight of the Blinding Dawn. In the cinematic before the boss fight, players will see the knight strike the iconic pose of the Dragoons. While this may seem like a small detail, many fans of Dragoons were very happy to see the direct nod to the class. In the end, using the Dragoon pose created an amazing Final Fantasy Easter Egg to kick off an intense boss fight.

2. Throne Room Layouts Resemble Earlier Games

Sometimes, the smallest Easter Eggs are the best to find, and Final Fantasy 16 has no shortage of them. One of the smallest details noticed so far has to do with the layout of the game’s throne room. The room is formatted with two staircases flanking and leading to the throne on either side. Although this may seem like a common structure for throne rooms to have, it almost directly resembles the throne rooms of early Final Fantasy entries, most notably the first Final Fantasy. Yoshi-P, a Final Fantasy series veteran and producer of the new Final Fantasy game, mentioned how the game of the series made him feel as if he was in a fantasy action movie. Some players have speculated that this may be a realization of his old childhood dreams.

1. Final Fantasy 16 Has A Spoony Bard Easter Egg

Finally, the best Easter Egg Final Fantasy 16 has to offer is the Spoony Bard NPC. Fans of Final Fantasy 4 are very familiar with the phrase, “You Spoony Bard!” In FF4 Tellah uses this phrase to insult Edward the Prince/Bard in a confrontation between the two characters. However, more modern fans have started applying the phrase to more situations. Now, the phrase more often than not refers to how useless Bards are, especially in the Final Fantasy franchise. Once again, Yoshi-P is said to have loved Final Fantasy 4, so seeing many references to the game was expected from fans. As a personal fan of Edward, this Final Fantasy 16 Easter Egg captures what is special about the franchise. Throughout a long history of games and spin-offs, Final Fantasy never forgets what made fans fall in love with the series in the first place.
