Many survival games always encourage players to bring with them survival tools, and Pacific Drive isn’t an exception. While many would expect a peaceful ride while taking in the radiation-filled sights, that isn’t the case. You’ll be spending most of your time scavenging for materials to improve your station wagon. However, certain places and objects will need a bit of tinkering before accessing them, hence the importance of bringing the right tools. So, let’s hope you have some space in your trunk because you can’t leave the garage without the following items.

1. First Aid Kit

This might seem like an obvious choice, but the further you venture into the zone, the more you’ll need one. It doesn’t need a lot of materials to craft, and it heals for the most amount. During most runs, at least speaking from personal experience, we forgot to carry one with us and paid the price. Maybe you won’t need to heal up a lot initially, but wait until the storm hits. If your vehicle doesn’t have enough protection, radiation will eat your health up, so don’t forget to bring a few First Aid Kits with you.

2. Scrapper

Once you want to build better car parts, you’ll see how crucial this tool is. Having a Scrapper with you at all times is the best you can do. Heck, having two is recommended. First, you’ll use it to break down scrap cars, which are the main source of Scrap Metal in the game. Second, you can also use the Scrapper to destroy certain appliances to get Electronics, which are rare parts you’ll need for certain upgrades. So, if possible, try to craft two of these bad boys and pack them up before you hit the road.

3. Impact Hammer

This is one of the first survival tools you’ll craft in Pacific Drive when following the tutorial. Initially, it only works to break certain generators that contain plasma. However, it has more uses. Many doors in the game need a bit of a push, and the Impact Hammer can do the job. Besides, once you reach the Scorched biome or any other in the mid-zone, you’ll find some resource nodes that need an Impact Hammer to be harvested. Crafting one can be tough due to its requirements, but the things you can do with it are extremely rewarding.

4. Crude Flashlight

The game can get extremely dark even if you turn the brightness up. Initially, you can use road flares to lighten up your way when looting buildings or trying to find an Anchor. However, they don’t last long, and you’ll need a better light source. Thankfully, that’s where the Crude Flashlight comes in. It’ll take a while to unlock because you need to get a few upgrades first, but it’ll be a reliable light source once you have it. If possible, try to craft two or three in case they run out of battery or lose them while exploring.

5. Prybar

One of the most useful survival tools in Pacific Drive is, undoubtedly, the Prybar. This little thing that sadly has low durability can help you open even the tightest lockers and trunks. You’ll need to carry at least three of them with you at all times, and thankfully, this item doesn’t use a lot of inventory space. Furthermore, you’ll need to have one to open up abandoned car trunks, trailer doors, and a few hazmat cabinets as well.

6. Anchor Radar

The one item we didn’t know we’d need until we reached the late game is the Anchor Radar. You see, each junction has different hazardous conditions that are always changing. Some can bring up a storm and affect your car’s battery. Others make the map pitch black, and so on. However, one of the most annoying and stressful is the one that scrambles the locations of Anchors on the map. The only way to find them is by using an Anchor Radar. You’ll need to invest much energy to unlock the upgrade, but you should never leave the garage without this item.

While there are more survival tools in Pacific Drive, we feel these are the ones you should always bring. If you make the good habit of always crafting a few extra items, you won’t struggle when exploring. So, pay attention to your driver’s checklist and pack everything before taking another road trip.
