7 Mortal Kombat 1 Fatalities That Could Actually Kill Homelander

Please, won’t someone finish him?

The Boys‘ Homelander is an excellent addition to Mortal Kombat 1. His presence draws attention to some weirdly hilarious aspects of the franchise’s power scaling. Guest characters raise questions about how those fights might go without the game’s systems in place. Mortal Kombat depicts immortals who shrug off constant killing blows before succumbing to any given cinematic finisher. However, I’m pretty sure some of the Kombatants have what it takes to finally end Homelander’s reign of terror.

Homelander’s “This Is Your Fault”

I think it’s fair to assume Homelander can kill himself. Sure, no weapon on Earth can harm him, but he should be exempt from that. This Fatality sees Homelander slice off the opponent’s legs with his heat vision before burning through their head and bisecting their body. We’ve seen Homelander tank laser blasts from Butcher in The Boys, but there is precedent for Homelander defeating himself. Comic book fans will remember that Black Noir was a clone designed to kill Homelander. Vought set up a mirror match as their Homelander solution, so Mortal Kombat 1 should be able to do it too.

Cyrax’s “Annihilation”

Sure, Homelander can survive direct exposure to explosives. He may even be able to shrug off a nuke. The Boys series states outright that Homelander is immune to every weapon on Earth. It doesn’t say anything about a weapon that could destroy Earth. This finishing move originated in 1999’s Mortal Kombat Gold. Mortal Kombat 1 includes Cyrax as a Kameo fighter, but they updated this over-the-top Fatality. Cyrax emits a massive collection of explosives that detonate, causing a blast that reduces the Earth to a burning husk. I think the initial blast would consume Homelander’s seemingly invulnerable flesh, but it barely matters. Homelander can’t breathe in space or live on floating debris, so this would have to kill him eventually.

Sindel’s “Livin’ The Scream”

Though the supes in The Boys and Gen V may seem invulnerable, there is one weakness that seems to effect them universally. Every supe has superhuman senses, rendering them vulnerable to supersonic sound. The titular gang wields this weakness to draw Homelander’s attention in the season two finale. Gen V expands the concept with guards wielding sonic weapons to incapacitate young supes. Sindel is Homelander’s worst nightmare in Mortal Kombat 1. Like most of her Fatalities, this finisher involves her floating around and shrieking like a banshee. Homelander’s unique weakness would make this sonic blast potentially lethal. It didn’t help Supersonic, but maybe Sindel can handle it better.

Ermac’s “Swallowed Soul”

The best Mortal Kombat 1 warriors use unconventional means to put Homelander down. Ermac is capable of attacking Homelander’s soul as well as his body. This Fatality sees him punch his opponent’s spirit cleanly out of their body. He quickly disposes of the corpse, then opens his mouth hilariously to inhale the victim’s soul. It’s a little esoteric, but Homelander has no notable defense against this. The only downside is that Ermac would probably have to go on living with Homelander’s insufferable personality inside his collective forever. I think I’d just lose this one on purpose.

Quan Chi’s “Final Offering”

Like Ermac, Quan Chi doesn’t need to attack the body. This is the perfect tool to defeat Homelander. Quan Chi uses his mysterious green sorcery to take control of his opponent’s body, forcing them to dismember themselves. He wills his foe to tear their head from their neck and present it as a gift before slumping over dead. If my theory that Homelander could kill himself holds up, this is a beautiful solution to the problem. Well, beautiful is the wrong word, but it’s honestly still better than Homelander deserves.

Omni-Man’s “Like Putty”

Omni-Man versus Homelander is one of the most popular “who would win” discussions of the modern day. I don’t understand why there’s any debate; the answer is inarguable. Omni-Man would turn Homelander into a fine paste within seconds. For my money, the opportunity to make that happen in video game form is the best reason to buy Mortal Kombat 1‘s DLC pack. While Omni-Man’s train Fatality would likely have no effect on Homelander, his raw physical strength would be a little more effective. We’ve seen Omni-Man best other superhumans before. This wouldn’t even be a challenge. He thought fighter jets were a lot of work to mimic a fraction of his power, but lab-growing supes is a step too far.

Liu Kang’s “Spaghettification”

Uh oh, John. There’s just no way around this one. Superman could probably outwit a black hole, but there aren’t a lot of other characters who could make it out of this. This perfectly succinct Fatality sees Liu Kang use his newfound godhood to drag his opponent into space and summon a black hole. Black holes compress their victims while stretching them out with a gravitational force that’s roughly 1.6 trillion times Earth’s normal gravity. Liu Kang has unilateral veto power over who does and doesn’t get to exist in this timeline. For once, Homelander finds himself in a position in which his strength doesn’t matter. I can only hope that Homelander’s death in The Boys is as spectacular and oddly poignant as it is in Mortal Kombat 1.
