Remnant 2 will keep most players busy for a long time, even without DLC. After all, randomization and replayability are key ingredients in the game’s formula. That said, there’s always room for growth and improvement. Now that players have gotten their hands on the game and are busy farming scrap, speculation has begun about future DLC. In typical gamer fashion, most people want more of everything, from fun mutators to more enemies. Nonetheless, some things are a higher priority than others. Here are some of our biggest requests when it comes to DLC.

New Worlds

Currently, Remnant 2 features five worlds: Losomn, Yaesha, N’Erud, The Labyrinth, and Root Earth. From Cotton’s Kiln’s burning streets to the Far Woods’s corrupted jungles, the game already sports several diverse locations. Combined with the randomization of maps, that gives the game a great deal of replayability already. However, Remnant 2 has enormous potential to explore other areas, so it would be a shame not to see more included. We need more spots for the dog to explore.

New Archetypes

The current selection of archetypes in Remnant 2 is a solid foundation. Playing as a Handler feels significantly different from playing as a Gunslinger, which is already a serious improvement over Remnant: From the Ashes. That said, adding new archetypes is one of the most obvious features a new DLC could explore. This is particularly true thanks to the ability to multiclass. Adding even one or two new archetypes would seriously expand players’ ability to mix and match powers. It’s no wonder there’s so much speculation about future archetypes.

New Enemy Types

Robots, deranged cultists who set themselves ablaze, and root monsters riddled with exploding pustules are just a few of the enemies encountered within. New enemies should be added for several reasons. Not only do new enemies keep combat fresh, but they also deepen the world’s lore. The best Souls-likes are famous for their environmental storytelling as well as their enemy storytelling. With every new ghoul and guardian we meet, we learn more about the world of Remnant 2. More enemies mean a bigger story and better combat, hence the speculation from players.

New Bosses

In terms of speculation for future Remnant 2 DLC, the request for new bosses might be the most predictable. World Bosses like Tal’Ratha, the Nightweaver, Annihilation, and the others already pose a serious threat, but even the many minor bosses are memorable. Randomized qualities like Drain, Regenerator, and Teleporter make every boss encounter feel a bit different than the last. Because of this system, adding just a few new bosses could considerably extend the game’s replay value.

More Cosmetic Options

The mechanical side of character creation is solid. It is choosing an archetype that matters. Unfortunately, the cosmetic side of character creation is a bit of a disappointment. There are a handful of options for modifying characters’ faces, hair, voices, and the like, but that’s about as deep as it goes. It’s unrealistic to ask for character creation with the depth of Black Desert or Final Fantasy XIV to be introduced in a DLC. Still, more customization choices could realistically be added. While it’s true that most characters spend their time clad in armor anyway, it would be nice to know that beneath it all is a character who looks the way you want.

Armor Modding

Players can already discover, upgrade, and modify weapons with Mutators. This grants the player significant flexibility, letting them play how they want regarding the offense. On the defensive side of things, the same can’t be said. The two biggest problems with armor in Remnant 2 are the limited selection of armor pieces and the lack of armor modding. Adding more armor pieces doesn’t solve the fundamental inflexibility that comes with a lack of armor mods. Adding a Mutator to a chest piece to gain a flame aura or heal when surrounded would make each character far more distinct.

Trait Rebalancing

Traits are already something that Gunfire Games are looking at, so this problem may be partially fixed in patches before any DLC even releases. The issue is complicated, but here are the basics: there are a lot of Traits, a finite number of Trait points, and few reasons to explore most Trait categories. Fixing this issue is no small feat. Traits, more than almost anything but weapon stats, directly affect combat balance. That said, a Trait fix needs to come. Fortunately, Gunfire Games weighed in on this speculation in a recent Reddit thread, suggesting this was an area they intend to address.

New Gameplay Modes

Remnant 2 has two modes at the moment: Campaign and Adventure. Dividing the game in this way was, frankly, a fantastic decision. Jumping into a quick adventure to grind some scrap or take a break from whatever Campaign boss is currently destroying you is a welcome relief. The possibilities for new gameplay modes are extensive, and each would give players further reasons to theory craft and blow stuff up. A boss rush, horde mode, or other more traditional Souls-like offers would all be welcome, but those only scratch the surface of the game’s potential. DLC could make Remnant 2 truly shine.

Remnant 2 is available for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
