If you plan on celebrating Star Wars Day with friends or family this year, we have a few ideas that you can try. Whether it’s a costume party or just a get-together, there are many ways to get into some Star Wars spirit and geek out to one of the most robust sci-fi franchises ever made. In this article, we’ve collected just a few ways to celebrate Star Wars Day on May the 4th. We got something for every friend or family group, from what food items you can create to what games or events you can host.
8. Have a Costume Party
Not everyone is into costume parties, but they can be quite fun. This is especially true for something like Star Wars. There are plenty of characters to choose from concerning who you cosplay. And what’s more, costumes can be as simple as a brown robe or as complex as some gold body paint. If you have some creative and ambitious friends or family among you, a costume party can quickly become an entertaining and anticipation swelling event all on its own. And for the kids, there are plenty of Star Wars costumes online or in stores that you can buy to keep them in on the fun.
7. Binge as Many Movies as You Can (Chronologically)
One of the best go-to activities to celebrate Star Wars Day is to watch all the movies. While that may have been perfectly possible in, say, 2001, it certainly isn’t now. So before you start your binge session, just remember how many movies there are and consider which ones you want to touch on and which you would be content with skipping. The movies can be divided into multiple categories. Your group could watch the original trilogy that came after the original or a handful of the spinoff movies that came much later.
6. Host a Star Wars Game Night
Game night is always fun, especially if it follows a Star Wars theme. There are plenty of board games out there, like Monopoly, that have Star Wars versions that you can play with friends. Getting your hands on some Star Wars themed board games isn’t too hard, especially around this time of the year. If you can’t find them locally, online on places like Amazon may have the Star Wars edition of the game you’re looking for. Pair that idea with a costume theme and a few movies, and you have an event-filled night that works for everyone.
5. Play Some Star Wars Video Games
If you thought the movie list was extensive for Star Wars, the video game list is much, much longer. With hundreds of games out there themed after Star Wars, deciding which to choose for a game night can be a little intimidating. If you’re having people over, you can choose from plenty of options for split-screen gameplay. For instance, Star Wars Episode I: Racers is a pod racing game that takes place on Tatooine. And don’t worry, while it is on the N64, you have other options. You can buy a copy on the Switch, which makes it easy to put it on the big screen, or the table with a few controllers.
4. Build Your Own Lightsaber
If you’ve ever been to Disney World, you know how awesome it can be to build your own lightsaber. It’s not just an activity for kids. Adults can have plenty of fun with it too. All you have to do to build one of your own lightsaber collectible toys is find the ones Disney sells at select stores. If one of those stores isn’t in your area, that’s fine. Amazon and other online shops likely have kits where you can change the color, details, buttons, and general builds of a lightsaber for not just one, but many. For a group of mixed ages, this can be a great side activity during the evening or maybe something to pass the time between movies.
3. Peruse Audible’s Star Wars Dramas
If you’re planning on spending the 4th by yourself, there’s a more relaxing option out there for you on Audible. Audiobooks can be incredibly immersive, especially if you manage to find small projects out there that are only one issue long. Or better yet, in the form of a short story. Light of the Jedi is an independent story by Audible with everything you need for prime Star Wars fiction. It isn’t just a book you’re listening to but a full-fledged adventure perfected with great voice acting talent, detailed sound effects, and scores during specific instances in the audiobook.
2. Build a Star Wars Lego Set
Whether you’re a fan of Legos or not, doing one together with others can be a rewarding experience for everyone involved. Lego sets take time to put together, so if you’re in for a quiet evening with some family, a Star Wars Lego set can be just the way to tie off the day with a little bit of fun. This can be especially true if you have kids. Lego sets are a great opportunity to do something engaging and fun with younger Star Wars fans. Not to mention, once you’re all finished, they can have a cool figure that they built to keep. Lego sets for Star Wars are very common. The two franchises have worked together well for many years. To keep the build permanent, you can get some clear glue to help keep every piece together.
1. Watch Star Wars Spinoffs on Disney+
Disney+ is a great place to find new things to watch. And since they own Star Wars, more so for that franchise. If you just want something to wind down the day with, or something a little deeper, Disney+ has tons of Star Wars content. So much so that they even have a section on the app and website dedicated to it. Now is a better time than ever to get started on the Mandalorian, especially if you’ve never seen it before. Obi-Wan Kenobi is also a good choice, as well as The Book of Boba Fett. All of these shows contain lore for some of your favorite characters. Any one of these shows is perfect for a 45-minute break from whatever activities you had scattered throughout the evening. Who knows, maybe a show you start will be your next favorite story?
Do any of these ways to celebrate Star Wars Day sound good to you? They are all small enough to take up an afternoon. However, combining them all could lead to a fun and fulfilling afternoon if you plan a full swinging party.
