The long-awaited film conclusion to the cult-classic animated series Invader Zim titled Invader Zim: Enter the Florpus has been given a new teaser, as well as a release date of August 16th on Netflix.

The teaser doesn’t give us much to go on, especially with us still not knowing the plot of Enter the Florpus, but it’s still fun and very fitting of the show nonetheless. We see a close-up of Zim’s face, and the camera zooms out to show Gir standing beside him as he laughs maniacally while sitting in a toilet, before the screen flashes “Enter the Florpus” in bright magenta letters. If this teaser is anything to go by, then the film will be a solid return to form and conclusion for the series.

Invader Zim was created by comic artist Jhonen Vasquez and originally premiered on Nickelodeon in 2001, where it ran for two seasons until 2002. It followed an alien invader named Zim who infiltrates society on Earth in disguise as a human being in order to attempt and take over the planet. The show gained acclaim and a cult following for its unique art style, memorable characters, and its dark sense of humor that often pushed the boundaries of what was acceptable on children’s television at the time. The show dealt with themes of death, societal decay, apocalypse, and most famously organ harvesting in the now infamous episode “Dark Harvest”. The series continued on for some time afterward in comic books but has come home to roost with its return to the screen in Enter the Florpus.

Nickelodeon originally approached Jhonen Vasquez with the hopes of creating a new Invader Zim TV show, though Vasquez rejected this idea in favor of instead creating a six-episode mini-series, which then later manifested as a TV film. Invader Zim: Enter the Florpus will launch on Netflix on August 16th.
