Gamers will have another reason to explore the Metro and a post-apocalyptic Moscow while shooting mutated monsters, shooting angry humans, and almost dying of radiation when their gas masks break.

The original author of the Metro books, Dmitry Glukhovsky, confirmed on Instagram that the Metro game series, developed by 4A Games, will continue and he is currently writing for it. There is no information about what the game will entail, but it will most likely have players shooting enemies while blood, rain, and cracks in their gas mask obscure their vision as is the Metro experience we know and love.

Metro Exodus, the most recent release for the franchise, follows the long-running, silent protagonist, Artyom. Artyom takes frequent journeys beyond the underground safe haven of the Metro because he believes there are more humans in the treacherous post-apocalyptic world. The story unfolds, and Artyom is right, but the world is much different than he ever thought. This leads to him and his squad searching for a better life as they travel via train.

Exodus, which released this year, brought a much more open-world to the series but kept its horror infused first-person shooter roots. It has an 82 percent on Metacritic and was generally praised, but has been the center of some controversy recently.

The first book of the Metro series, Metro 2033, was published in 2005, which garnered a video game adaption for Xbox 360 and Microsoft Windows in 2010. The next game in the series released for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Windows in 2013. These both received a remaster for current-generation consoles in 2014.

Details for the next installment is sparse, which is to be expected at this time, but the franchise will not die anytime soon.
