Comic-Con is probably the only event that can beat E3 for the title of nerd-heaven. It’s where entertainment companies from all walks of media come to show off their upcoming products. Comics, tv, movies; all the greatest upcoming releases get previewed there. If you have an upcoming media product and it doesn’t get a showing at Comic-Con, you’re either a tiny company or you’re crazy.

Yeah, like that.

If that’s the case though, then we’ll need to throw Sony and Paramount into the crazy box along with Marvel. ‘Guardians’ director James Gunn revealed back in March that Marvel would not be attending Comic-Con. This was quite the decision as Marvel is arguably the biggest name in comics right now. With their, ever expanding, cinematic universe, there’s always something in the works that the fans want to hear about. And that’s not to mention the current ‘Secret Wars’ event (on the comic front) which will be in full swing when Comic-Con begins.

Marvel’s absence makes Sony’s non-attendence all the more painful for fans as it means there is no chance of any new information on the upcoming Spider-Man reboot. Fans have been speculating for months on who the new Spidey actor will be. Many would have, no doubt, been hoping it would be confirmed at Comic-Con.

Meanwhile, Paramount not attending means that there will be no news on Transformers, Ninja Turtles or Star Trek 3.

‘Paramount!!!’

According to Variety, the reason for these prominent absences is more to do with bad timing more than anything else;

“It wasn’t a knock against Comic-Con,” one spokesperson explains, “the film cycles just didn’t allow it.”

Still, while these three will be missed, there’s still plenty to look forward to at Comic-Con 2015. There is likely to be new info on Star Wars, Hunger Games and maybe even the Justice League movie.

Stay tuned to Nerd Stash for more Comic-Con news as it comes.
