Brand new streaming platform Quibi gets a big debut as the service receives close to two million downloads.

Launching just last week, Monday, on April 6, the mobile-only video program released an abundance of content that basically streams a lot of movie and TV standards that are original. Everything from courtroom dramas to comedies and horror shows, with sports and newscasting for when you need something quick for on-the-go.

According to company boss Meg Whitman, the expectations for the service’s launch were exceeded, especially during the crisis of the coronavirus pandemic.

Since a lot of people are staying indoors to protect themselves from the virus, it’d make more sense if they were more prone to watching longer programs and movies instead of shorter content that streams solely with their mobile devices.

Quibi’s “quick bite” formula is focused on creating content that is 10 minutes or less, no matter if it’s a series or a news report. Relying on advertisement and celebrities to push more attention toward the launch, the company’s different and unique approach for its programs might’ve been overlooked if it didn’t have big shows to introduce.

A reboot of the Punk’d series, hosted by Chance the Rapper, made its debut on April 6. Other available programs include Most Dangerous Game that stars Liam Hemsworth and Christoph Waltz; comedy series Flipped with Kaitlin Olson and Will Forte, arbitration-based show Chrissy’s Court that has Chrissy Teigen dons a judge personality to settle small cases, and so many others.

The company intends to roll out TV support as well in order to cater to those who are stuck at home during the quarantine.

Users can sign up now for a 90-day free trial with the service. Those who choose to stick around after the trial period can pay a monthly subscription in two days: $4.99 per month for the ad-supported version, and $7.99 per month without ads.
