Can you believe that Oddworld: Munch’s Oddysee came out way back in 2001? The level of excitement and betrayal I felt at the time feels like only yesterday, when in fact it was almost 20 years ago. Not that I’m one to hold grudges.

After playing, and loving, both Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee and Abe’s Exoddus I was excited to get my hands on the latest game in the series when it was released on the PlayStation 2. The trouble was, that release never happened as Munch’s Oddysee jumped ship and became an exclusive launch title for the brand new Xbox console.

It was strange enough that Microsoft was launching a console, but even stranger that a series I felt was synonymous to the PlayStation would now be heading in that direction.

Despite since being ported to other consoles I have still never had the opportunity to play Oddworld: Munch’s Oddysee. After all these years’ I think it’s time to let bygones be bygones and give this title a chance.

Coincidently it’s releasing on the Nintendo Switch on the timely date of today. What a miracle. Take a look at the launch trailer for yourselves below:

This may not be the most exciting Switch news of the day for many of you, but fans of these series and super late newcomers, like me should be excited to give this game a try on Nintendo’s hybrid console.

Munch’s Oddysee was the first game in the series to make the jump to 3D, it was also the first game not to star Abe. He’s here and fully playable, but the game also stars Munch as he strives to stop his race from going extinct.

Critics at the time praised the puzzles on offer, but some just wanted a sequel that focussed on Abe alone. Since then a somewhat cult following has developed around a game that, despite any shortcomings, was said to be pretty fun. With graphical improvements and the ability to play anywhere, it seems like there’s no better time to give it a try.

Oddworld: Munch’s Oddysee is available on the Nintendo eShop today for the reduced price of $19.99 (usually $29.99). If you’ve picked it up, be sure to let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
