Maverick, the rumored next Star Wars project from Electronic Arts could be getting a full reveal sooner than anyone expected. After initially getting leaked on PSN earlier this spring, there’s been very little word about the game. It’s possible the dominos began falling quite quickly on Thursday and the puzzle pieces started to fit. Reading through a number of different tea leaves, it’s possible we’ll see a full reveal on Tuesday, June 2.
Assuming this isn’t just a flight of fancy, the first shoe might have dropped a few weeks back. Venture Beat’s Jeff Grubb dropped a tweet on May 11 he called his “Summer Game Mess.” In that post he laid out all the gaming events he knew were scheduled at the time. While he admitted not everything was 100 percent accurate, the June 2 entry was especially interesting because it was labeled simply as “Mel Gibson Picture.”
That entry doesn’t make a whole lot of sense unless you keep in mind Gibson once did a movie called Maverick. The second shoe to drop is the rather sudden arrival on Twitter of Motive Montreal, the company said to be working on EA’s next Star Wars game.

The timing is nothing if not … interesting. Jordan Maison, the Editor in Chief of Cinelinx thought so as well. Not long after Motive took to social media, he pointed out their role in Maverick. Known as a Star Wars “insider” Maison didn’t pull any punches when he tweeted out people should look out for something “next week.”

As if to drive the point home, Grubb replied directly to Motive with an image from the upcoming movie, Top Gun: Maverick.

Maverick Officially in the Danger Zone?
By itself, that might have been nothing more than acknowledging what the studio is working on. However, if Grubb is talking in movie riddles, his greeting could be another hint at what we’ll see next week. While none of this is set in stone, it makes for an interesting trail of bread crumbs if nothing else.
