There will be no DLC forย The Last of Us Part II, creator Neil Druckmann has confirmed.
The 41-year-old creative director and writer confirmed this fact on theย Kinda Funny Gamescast to host Greg Miller. He was joined in the spoiler-filled discussion with actors Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson, who play Joel and Ellie respectively.
Revealing the fact as simple as can be, Druckmann said, “There are no plans for DLC”.
This setsย The Last of Us Part II apart from its predecessor, which had theย Left Behindย DLC where the player-controlled Ellie before the main story of the first game, revealing her sexuality and also during the section where Joel is bed-ridden and healing after the university shootout.
There have been talks of a multiplayer element, since the Factions multiplayer mode of the original game. In this mode, players could choose a factionย – Hunters or Fireflies – and go head-to-head in team deathmatches, Supply Raids, or Survivor modes.
However, it was announced thatย The Last of Us Part II would not contain a multiplayer mode of its own, with Naughty Dog releasing a statement on the matter, stating, “You will eventually experience the fruits of our team’s online ambitions, but not as part of ‘The Last of Us Part II.'”. The developers noted the fandom’s love of Factions and promised to share more on the topic later.

It seems that ‘Factions’ itself may become its own game as opposed to being an add-on to the single-player game as with The Last of Us Part I. Whether or not Druckmann and co. may change their minds and add a little something toย Part IIย further down the line is anyone’s guess.
