The Marvel train keeps on chugging. Hot off the massive success of its Marvel Cinematic Universe movie franchise, the comics juggernaut is seemingly set to invade the world of Fortnite. The battle royale has been teasing the latest big event to hit players, after such ones like Travis Scott concerts,ย Christopher Nolan movie screenings, and even Infinity War crossover events in the immediate wake of the film coming out in cinemas.
Now though, Marvel seems to be on the verge of returning to Fortnite on a much larger scale, with multiple heroes and villains taking starring roles. The first sign of this has just dropped, as a comic detailing the backstories of Thor and Galactus has found its way onto the main menu.
The comic is being written by Thor writer Donny Cates and drawn by artist Greg Land. The comic links to the current Thor comic storyline, as Galactus’ Herald of Thunder, travels to a strange world after discovering a strange power. Problem is, it’s the world of Fortnite, and so he gets immediately attacked by its inhabitants, and sniped by an 11-year-old whose mom had just bought him some V-bucks (okay, that last part may have been a snide lie).
After defending himself, he finds himself losing his memory, as if the mysterious loop that frames Fortnite’s endlessly repeating conflict is affecting the God of Thunder.
Fortnite and developer Epic Games have been also heavily featured in the news lately, following the game’s removal from Apple’s App Store and the lawsuit that Epic subsequently followed up against Apple and Google. In addition to the #FreeFortnite campaign started by Epic, it has started a debate over the rights of platform holders and the size of the percentage of income that developers deserve to make. The Epic Games Store, which hosts Fortnite on PC, has taken a hard stance on developer power, with it offering a larger portion of the income going directly to developers than competitors like Steam.
