This article is over 4 years old and may contain outdated information.

In our review of Borderlands 3, we called it “a very good game that harkens back to everything that made people fall in love with the franchise”. It’s more of the same, but when that same is Borderlands what’s not to love? Believe it or not, there are still some people who have never even heard of the series’, along with longtime fans who have not managed to play Borderlands 3 yet.

If you fall into either category then I’m here to tell you that there’s never been a better time to give the looter-shooter a try. Not only is it ridiculously cheap at the moment, but publisher 2K has announced details for the launch on next-gen consoles. If you’re wondering why that would make now a good time to adopt, I’m here to tell you.

Borderlands 3 will be a free upgrade for any current-gen players and will be playable on launch day for the Xbox Series X and S, as well as the PlayStation 5. The below image shows the exact dates.

The upgraded version will feature 4K resolution at 60 fps, with up to 4 players now supported for some co-op split screen mayhem. Just like the good old days.

Borderlands 3 will be available for the next generation of consoles as soon as they launch. It goes without saying, but you must upgrade within the same console family (PS4 to 5, etc), and if you own the physical edition you will need to own the disc version of your new console. Waving the disc at it just will not work, contrary to what all of us wish.

There was also the promise of more exciting news to come at the end of the month. More specifically on October 29 at 9:00 PT on the Borderlands Twitch channel. Quite what that will be, we don’t know but I will be sure to bring you the news when we do.

Let me know if you plan to upgrade, and if you’ve yet to play Borderlands 3, be sure to head to the comments and let me know why.
