Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings has officially wrapped filming! With principal photography beginning in February 2020, Shang-Chiย finally wrapped on October 24, 2020. To celebrate the occasion, the actors and director recently took to social media to post special messages and images.
As reported by TheWrap, the lead actor, Simu Liu, posted a message to a private Facebook group that read as follows:
That’s a wrap on SHANG CHI AND THE LEGEND OF THE TEN RINGS!!!!!!!! Nine months from now we will break records and make history as the first superhero movie to feature an ALL-ASIAN cast that kicks so much ass it’s not even funny. Well – that’s a lie, actually, it’s quite funny too.
For all of us who hate hated the colour of our skin, or been made to feel less than because of it; NO MORE. This is OUR movie, and it will be IMPOSSIBLE for Hollywood to ignore us after this. I’ll see you then. But probably sooner actually because i’m always on here lollll. LET’S F**KING GO.”
Simu Liu’s comments refer to perceived problems concerning diversity in Hollywood. Historically speaking, Asian people in Hollywood have been under-represented. The romantic comedy Crazy Rich Asians,ย released in 2018, scored $239 million worldwide on a $30 million budget and is considered a milestone in the representation of Asian people in Hollywood.
Simu Liu further celebrated publicly on his Instagram. The image features both him and Shang Chi‘s director Destin Daniel Cretton. In the post, Liu writes, “We made a baby!!! We canโt wait to introduce him to the world in 9 months… ??? #WRAPPED”.
Cretton himself also posted an image to Instagram, celebrating the Marvel film’s completion, enthusing “WE. ARE. WRAPPED!”. Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is scheduled to release on July 9, 2021. The movie is part of the fourth phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Are you hyped forย Shang-Chi?
