The E3 2021 live event is apparently canceled, at least according to these LA City documents.

As noted initially by VGC, The Board of Los Angeles Convention and Tourism Development Commission published a new report. It is stated in this report that the live event version of E3 2021 is canceled and that the city is “working with the production team on broadcast options at LA Live/LACC.”

No Live E3 Event in 2021

This somewhat makes sense, given that we are still in the midst of the pandemic. The exact reason for the lack of a physical E3 event remains unknown, but the fact that it’s not happening begs the question: do we really need it? As noted by our host of The Nerd Stash Show, Brandon Stephenson, and Staff Writer Johnny Reynolds in episode 52 of our podcast, there’s seems to be little reason for a live E3 event. Reynolds noted:

I fail to see why we need an E3, even if it is digital, why do we need it – when companies can save a lot of money and just put out their own press conferences.”

Stephenson speaks for us all when he says that E3 is like “Nerdy Christmas”, and while we’re still stoked for E3 every year, that doesn’t mean that it’s such a big deal that E3 doesn’t manifest in Los Angeles arenas.

No more sights like these, I guess.

VGC also detailed E3 2021 pitch documents talking about the show including “multiple two-hour keynote sessions from game partners, an awards show, a June 14 preview night, and other smaller streams from game publishers, influencers, and media partners”.

So even if there is no live event, E3 will sure keep us busy this year as well, maybe even more so given that EVERYTHING is online. What do you think about E3 lacking a live event this year as well? Do you miss it? Think we’re losing something precious? Excited for E3 regardless? Let us know in the comments below.

In other news, Terminator anime series is in the works, and Skyrim is getting a board game.
