History has been made at the 93rd Oscars with Respawn Entertainment and Oculus Studios, two video game companies, walking away with an Oscar for the first time! The two companies won the award for a documentary they did called Colette. The documentary was done in relation to their game Medal Of Honor: Above and Beyond.

This is the first time a video game company has been nominated and won an Oscar, a remarkable moment for Respawn Entertainment and the others involved.

Respawn Entertainment is best known for Apex Legends, Titanfall, and Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.

They won The Best Documentary (Short Subject) for Colette. The documentary, directed by Anthony Giacchino, depicts a 90-year old French resistance fighter and her emotional journey as she undertakes a trip back to Germany after World War 2.

Colette Marin-Catherine is one among the last of the French resistance fighters. Now she takes a trip back to where it all happened, after 74 years to be exact. She had no intentions of going back to a place that gave her nothing but nightmares, but someone shows up in her life who persuades her to take this journey.

Colette from Medal Of Honor

The documentary came out as a part of the VR game Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond. This game, just like the documentary, follows the life of a soldier during World War 2. Medal Of Honor games have always been outstanding when it comes to retelling stories of soldiers and they have not missed the mark with this one as well.

Colette went on to gather critical acclaim from all over. It had a theatrical and festival release even before it was featured on the game, where it gained huge applause. The documentary is now available to watch for free on the Guardian.

Medal Of Honor has also made a name for itself alongside Colette. It is remarked as one of the best in-depth VR experiences of recent times. The game is available on Oculus Rift and on Steam. It’s a great day for the people of the gaming industry and let us hope that this is just the start of many great things ahead. Have you had the chance to watch Colette and/or play Medal Of Honor: Above and Beyond? Tell us in the comments below!
