The Rewinder Launches September, Beautiful Pixel Art
This article is over 3 years old and may contain outdated information.

The Rewinder is a puzzler adventure game launching in September that utilizes a unique mechanic in the form of the player being able to communicate with spirits and explore other people’s minds and memories to ultimately alter the past. Developed by ‘Misty Mountain Studio’ and published by ‘Gamera Game,’ The Rewinder offers an experience fleshed out with a beautiful pixel art style that enraptures our deepest inclinations towards the most serene art. The player will take on the role of the titular ‘Rewinder,’ someone who can explore the memories of others. The name of our intriguing protagonist is Qi Yun.

The player is tasked by the guards of the underworld to go to a mysterious village and understand and find out why a spirit couldn’t be reincarnated. The village itself is abandoned, the shackles of a past civilization and memories gone, flowing through the wind, now only filled with indignant spirits. The only person remaining in the village is one woman who has been waiting in the teahouse. More questions than answers are now open for the player to discover the truth behind.

Throughout the experience, you can expect a strong focus on Chinese mythology that flows through the strong, delicate roots of the game; you may find yourself speaking to Spirit Wardens, the Ox-head, or the Tudi Gong, for example. Needless to say, the game also features unique and original puzzle design mechanics, as aforementioned. Players can use ‘senses’ collected from the game’s so-called ‘memory world,’ and this is how you will be able to change NPC’s beliefs and intentions, changing both history and the present in the process.

Players can expect an engaging story along with the beautiful pixel art visuals to push their journey forward every step of the way.

Will you be venturing into this beautiful and elegant world in September? Let us know in the comments below! The Rewinder launches on September 10th on Steam.
