Major Nelson, XBox‘s Director of Programming, announced on his blog what the XBox Live Games with Gold will be for October. Each month, two games on XBox One and two games on XBox 360 are made available for free for anyone with an XBox Gold membership. October’s free Games with Gold for XBox One are Valiant Hearts: The Great War (regularly retailing for $14.99) and The Walking Dead: The Complete First Season (regularly retailing for $24.99). October’s free Games with Gold for XBox 360 are Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes (regularly $19.99) and The Walking Dead: The Complete First Season (again, regularly $24.99).

Valiant Hearts

Valiant Hearts: The Great War is a story-driven, adventure/puzzle game with a unique art style and excellent music. Set during World War I, the game provides a historically-inspired story that follows several different intertwining character arcs. It is capable of tugging the heartstrings and is a stylistically striking game. It was originally released in June 2014 to very positive reviews. It will be available to download free on XBox One with an XBox Live Gold Membership October 1st through October 31.

Walking Dead

The Walking Dead: The Complete First Season is a Telltale adventure game, and is almost universally seen as their best to date (although Tales from the Borderlands may steal that crown when it releases its final episode). It follows the story of Lee and Clementine, who develop a very strong bond as they attempt to navigate the deadly perils of the zombie apocalypse. Telltale’s games generally do not have puzzles like many point-and-click games. Rather, they focus on storytelling, character interaction, and difficult decisions. If you’ve never played one before, The Walking Dead is a great place to start. It is available free to download on both XBox One and XBox 360 with a Gold Membership October 16th through November 15th.

MGS

Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes is the prequel to the wildly successful and critically acclaimed Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. You control Snake as he attempts to infiltrate a base in Cuba. Quick gunplay and plenty of sneaking help set up the player for the events of The Phantom Pain. It was in XBox One’s Games with Gold for August, and it will now be available for XBox 360 users free October 1 through October 31st.

Eager to pick up any of these XBox titles? What are you most excited for, and what other games do you want to see on Games with Gold? Let us know!
