Showrunner Caroline Dries announced Friday that The CW’sย Batwomanย series has been canceled. This news was announced a month after the show’s third season aired. Her announcement came in the form of a Tweet that said, “Just got the sad news thatย Batwomanย will not be seeing a season 4. I am bummed but full of gratitude. What an honor to make 51 episodes. So many inspiring, brilliant people contributed to this series. Thank you, producers, cast, and crew. Thank you, fans! We love you.” At the same time, TVLines’s 2022 Renewal Scorecard has also been updated to confirm the change with Batwoman’s programming.

Batwoman’sย third season was averaging about 760,000 total viewers. This is a 20% decrease from its second season, ranking #13 out of the 19 dramas from The CW. The 13th largest DVR bump (+66%) has also been reported on the CW list.
Batwoman Canceled: Where Does That Leave Gotham?
Despite the show ending on what would be considered a cliffhanger, Dries also noted that the episode could also serve as a season finale. She had previously opened up about her plans for Season 4. These plans included looking more into the Jet family dynamic. She had also stated that fans would see Ryan and Sophie “being happy for a little while,” and the Joker’s acid bomb situation.
Batwomanย first premiered on The CW in 2019 to strong ratings. The series initially starred Ruby Rose to play the title character Kate Kane (a cousin of Bruce Wayne). After he leaves Gotham City, she takes up the title of Batwoman to protect the city.
Rose left the series after the first season. It was later revealed that they were fired after complaining about the unsafe conditions on set. Javicia Leslie took over the lead role in season two, playing Ryan Wilder (a former criminal who takes on Batwoman after Kate’s disappearance). The cast also includes Rachel Skarsten, Meagan Tandy, Nicole Kang, Camrus Johnson, Victoria Cartagena, Robin Givens, and Nick Creegan.
