Many people have heard of legendary sci-fi author Philip K. Dick.  He is responsible for many pieces of classic genre literature such the VALIS trilogy, Flow My Tears, The Police Man Said, and Ubik. Many of his works have been turned into an award-winning films or television shows such as Blade Runner (based on Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?), Total Recall (based on We Can Remember It for You Wholesale), and Minority Report, among others.

Dick’s body of work is extremely unique and ripe for cultivation and as such it is a little shocking that up until this point there haven’t been any video games that really strive to capture that same vibe.  Californium aims to change that.

While Californium’s developers are unable to use Dick’s name, their game aims to be a Dickian take on the life of Philip K. Dick.  Californium will cover everything from the man’s multiple marriages to his heavy drug use, all strung together with the themes and concepts found throughout his body of work.

Californium

Between the beautiful unique art style of Olivier Bonhomme, chosen by the developers and producers to stand apart from the bleak and dreary dystopian color palette found in many adaptions of Dicks work, and the short but to the point trailer Californium looks as though it is going to be a fairly heartfelt tribute and sequel to the man himself.

The game will be released in early 2016 on arte.tv and Steam.  Below is the teaser trailer.
