Different types of compasses have been available in Minecraft for years now. While the classic compass allows you to track the direction you are facing, others, such as the lodestone compass, point towards certain blocks or objects. The recent release of the 1.19 Wild Update introduces a new compass type known as the Recovery Compass. This guide will provide a comprehensive explanation of the Recovery Compass, how to use it and how you craft it in Minecraft Java and Bedrock Editions.

The Recovery Compass Explained in Minecraft Java and Bedrock

Minecraft Recovery Compass Crafting
In Minecraft, the Recovery Compass is a type of compass used to track the location of your last death spot. Similar to a normal compass, a small pointer guides you in the direction of your previous death location, allowing you to find any lost items or important spots. This is especially helpful if you dropped valuable items or respawned far away from your death spot and have trouble finding your way back. However, it only works if you use the compass in the same dimension you’re currently in. If you die in the Nether, End or the Deep Dark and are in the Overworld, you’ll first have to head back to the other dimension.

In Minecraft Java and Bedrock Editions, You can obtain a Recovery Compass by crafting it. To craft a recovery compass, you’ll need the following items:

  1. Eight Echo Shards, obtained from the Deep Dark in Ancient City loot chests.
  2. One regular compass, which you craft using four Iron Ingots and one Redstone Dust. Place the Redstone Dust in the center of the crafting table grid before surrounding it with the four Iron Ingots. Alternatively, you can find naturally-generated compasses in Shipwreck, Stronghold and Village loot chests.
  3. After getting your normal compass, place it in the middle of the crafting table grid before surrounding it with the eight Echo Shards.

After crafting your Recovery Compass, simply hold it in your hand and follow the direction of the pointer. The compass will direct you to where you died, allowing you to pick up any lost items as long as they didn’t respawn.

Minecraftย is available onย PC, Android, iOS, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PlayStation platforms.
