Skylight Games has released its Award-winning music and language game Lyriko on Android and iOS devices. Lyriko allows players to practice the foundational skills required to learn a foreign language by listening to songs and playing mini-games. As of launch day, the game supports Spanish for English-speaking players and English for several languages including Spanish and Portuguese.

Skylight Games founder Dan Roy stresses the importance of language learning skills. He notes the challenges inherent in immigration and business and makes special mention of the cultural value of linguistic fluency.

“Business is becoming increasingly global and knowing another language can unlock new opportunities,” Roy says. “Studying another language and culture is one of the best ways to break down prejudice and build appreciation in its place.”

Based on this conviction, Roy designed Lyriko for a diverse audience and reception has been very positive. Prior to its mobile release the game has earned several awards including the title of Regional Winner of the 2015 Apps for Class Challenge, Best Serious Game (Beta/Near Release) at Mass DiGI’s Game Challenge 2015, and Best Learning Game – Super Smarts award at the 2014 Boston Festival of Indie Games.

Lyriko is available for free download. Players will start with four free songs with more free songs unlockable upon completing achievements and completing certain social tasks with other users. The game will also support in-app purchases for additional content. What Do You Think? Let us know in the comments below!
