Star Wars Fan Last Through a 46-hour Marathon

Do you think you are a Star Wars super fan? One man, Jim Braden, put his love of Star Wars to the test at the Alamo…

Do you think you are a Star Wars super fan? One man, Jim Braden, put his love of Star Wars to the test at the Alamo Drafthouse’s “Most insane Star Wars marathon competition in the galaxy.” Joining six other super fans, the group had to endure watching the entire series and then watch The Force Awakens as many times in one sitting. On December 17th, at 4am, seven participants began a marathon with a goal of watching all seven films again and again until there was one person left. After 15 rounds of this madness, one man was left standing and won some pretty awesome prizes. Braden earned himself a seven-year pass to Alamo Drafthouse Theaters, a seat named after him in the theater, and some awesome Star Wars memorabilia.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Braden explained his strategy going into this movie marathon. “…I took a sort of scientific approach. I planned accordingly: I was really careful about when I ate… I avoided the usual high-caffeine drinks like Red Bull and just stuck with a cup of coffee ever 6 hours…” He went on, elaborating that a regiment of deep diaphragm breathing, chewing gum, and lemon wedges helped him succeed. Though, as to be expected, watching Star Wars: The Force Awakens this many times did have some negatives packaged along. “By the 8th and 9th viewing , I zoned out, and the movie just washed over me. I think I went a little insane. I checked out.”

Truthfully this is a pretty impressive feat and I don’t think I would be capable of making it 46 hours. Maybe for Mad Max: Fury Road, but not Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Make sure to check out our review of the latest Star Wars and check back here for all the latest Star Wars news.

How long do you think you would have lasted in this challenge? What film could you endure watching repeatedly for 46 hours? Sound off in the comments below!
