It appears that Sylvester Stallone will retire his iconic character of John Rambo. Rambo was last seen in the 2008 film of the same name and ended with the character returning to America. Despite Stallone saying for a number of years he has been working on a script for a fifth film, Rambo: Last Blood, it appears he has abandoned the project. In a recent interview, 0Sylvester Stallone stated, “The heart’s willing, but the body says, ‘Stay home!”

He also commented on his satisfaction with how Rambo IV ended.

“You know when you realize there’s nothing more to pull out? As an action film, I was very satisfied that it dealt with the Burmese situation. It had one foot in a current event, the longest civil war in history, 65 years at that time. It was so brutal, which civil war is, I was shocked they even gave me an R-rating. I didn’t want to compromise. I said, ‘This is probably going to be the last decent film of this genre that I’m going to do as a solo act.’ When that was accomplished, I never felt the same willingness to do it again.”

Even though Rambo from the movies may be retiring, a TV series being produced by Fox will focus on the son of Rambo. Stallone is not involved with this project and remarked that he did want to cast aspirations but he believes replacing a character with their son is a difficult thing to do.

Rocky vs Apollo Creed Round 3?

With Rambo going out, it appears Creed will be stepping in for another round. The success of Creed, which has currently grossed over $100 million on a $35 million dollar budget has MGM CEO Gary Barber saying, “There’s no doubt that we’re making a ‘Creed 2.” While there is no official synopsis for the sequel, several ideas have been floated around. One such idea would have the movie going back into the past where we would see Rocky Balboa and Carl Weathers back in the ring together again, possibly with the work of CGI. Stallone also discussed another possibility paralleling Rocky IV in which Adonis Creed would face a “more ferocious, big Russian.”

Creed is currently still in theaters and has received mostly positive reviews so far. If you have seen Creed, what did you think? Would you rather see Sylvester Stallone play Rambo or Rocky again? Or should he hang up both characters? Let us know in the comments below and be sure to check back for future updates.
