One of Steam’s best free-to-play games is receiving another huge expansion today, March 4th.ย Path of Exile can best be described as free-to-playย Diablo; players wander through randomly generated dungeons, killย monsters, collect loot, killย bigger monsters, etc. It is extremely fun and addictive, and games with a lot less contentย have charged a lot more money and seen a lot less developer support.ย Path of Exile: Ascendancy is available for download today, and it will bring the requisite “new items, new classes, gameplay tweaks” of most large patches, along with an entirely new twist to the standardย Path of Exile formula.
The big draw ofย the newย Path of Exile expansion is Izaro’s Trials of Ascendancy. Izaro is a character seeking aย successor, and you must prove to him that you are worthy by defeating puzzle rooms full of traps. Once these puzzle rooms have been cleared, the entrance to Izaro’s Labyrinth will open. This lengthy run will feature the traps from Izaro’s trials as well as three battles with Izaro himself. According to developer Grinding Gear Games, Izaro’s style will change depending on how you fought against him in previous battles. Upon reaching the end of the labyrinth, players will be rewarded with one of nineteen new Ascendancy classes.
Path of Exile: Ascendancyย willย also openย Perandus Challenge Leagues. These leagues will provide unique effects, items, and bragging rights to players who are in a competitive sort of mood. Many of the new items in the expansion are designed by the community. You can view the full (extensive) patch notes here, and you can check out the trailer below.
