Believe it or not, Zelda turns 30 this year. Two fans have taken their passion, love, and skill and put it into an impressive voxel/3D NES The Legend of Zelda game, available for free on any browser.

The game is in progress, with some dungeons and rooms stating that “Oh no! My demo is showing this room is no yet working.” The duo have created the game using WebGL code entirely. It’s important to note as well, that it’s just a great way to experience a classic game like never before.

The two-man fan-team has done a great job tugging at gamer’s heart strings, that’s for sure. The game is complete not only with a great new look and literal perspective on the game, but the music and sound is there as well. Oh, don’t forget the d-pad and A-B buttons in the buttons corners as well!

“…take this!”

The game is also going to be continuously updated and hopefully complete in the future. Mike and Scott have created a Facebook page to update fans and players on the progress. Most recently, a post thanks fans and updates them on some noted bugs:

Hi Everyone, we are astounded by all your support for this tribute project. It’s really inspiring to hear how much everyone has been enjoying playing this glitchy game. It’s only going to get better!

The most popular bugs are:

-1/2 heart of life, when obtaining a heart container and regaining full health, the trigger to turn the ‘beep’ for low health is never turned off.

-Bombs are coming in pieces of 1 instead of the usual 4 which makes it difficult to face Dodongo in level 2.
*This needs to be fixed pronto!

… This is not The Greatest Game in the World, no.
This is just a tribute :)

The progress notes go on further, but head over the page to get all the latest updates as they come. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have some voxel Zelda to play!
