Finnish developer Remedy Entertainment is best known for their single player games like Alan Wake and (recently released) Quantum Break. Even though the single player route has worked for the team, that hasn’t stopped them from thinking about multiplayer games.

Sam Lake, Creative Director for Remedy, appeared on the latest Major Nelson podcast and talked about the company. According to Lake, Remedy hasย “all kinds of ideas floating around.” Some of these ideas include multiplayer gaming in some form.

“Certainly there are discussions about multiplayer,” he said.ย “There are discussions about all kinds of ideas. We want to evolve with the times as well: try out new things that push ourselves, and always come back and question, ‘What is a Remedy game and how can we evolve it into something even cooler?’

“A lot of this is happening all the time. So far we haven’t done that,” he added, referencing multiplayer. “Sometimes it has been maybe considered and sometimes not even in the discussions, but you know, we’ll see what will be the next iteration or a Remedy game.”

Lake also stressed that telling stories in new ways is important to the team. This idea is evident in Quantum Break as the game features both a game and a show with players making choices that are reflected in both.

When it comes to the future of Quantum Break,ย which was released on April 5th, Lake didn’t have any specific details to share. He only stated that theย franchise’s future depends on how well the first game does.

“Thatโ€™s something that will be obviously determined by the success of Quantum Break,” he said. “When we build a new IP we do a lot of background work on it, and kind of build a lot more than just the game. You know, time will tell.”
