New Magnificent Seven Cast
This article is over 9 years old and may contain outdated information.

In 1960, Yul Brynner lead an all-star cast in the Magnificent Seven about a group of gunfighters hired to protect a town in Mexico. That film today is currently ranked number 79 on AFI’s list of American Cinemas 100 most thrilling films. In 2016, Denzel Washington will take the reigns in the Magnificent Seven remake, which just released its first trailer and again consists of an all-star cast. The film is being directed by Antoine Fuqua and stars Denzel Washington in the title role as Sam Chisolm, a bounty hunter and the leader of the seven. Other members of the cast include Chris Pratt, Ethan Hawke, Vincent D’Onofrio, Byung-hun Lee, Peter Sarsgaard and more.

Magnificent Seven 2016 Cast

The modern retelling will follow the same lines as the original with a widow (played by Haley Bennett) hiring seven gunslingers to get revenge for the death of her husband. The Magnificent Seven in 1960 was a remake in its own right of the Japanese film Seven Samurai. The new film has been in the planning stages since way back in 2012 with Tom Cruise having involvement at the time along with Kevin Costner, Morgan Freeman and even Matt Damon at one point. Filming took place in New Orleans and was by no means an easy shoot due to the crew having to regularly deal with temperatures soaring as high at 110 degrees.

James Horner was pegged to write the film’s score but unfortunately passed away. Horner wrote the score for Titanic and is currently the best selling orchestral film soundtrack of all time. He has also worked on the Avatar films with James Cameron. In an interesting bit of news, Director Antoine Fuqua learned a month after Horner’s death that he has already written the score for the film and intended it to be a surprise. As such this will be the final score released posthumously by Horner.
