Tekken X Street Fighter, the game developed by Bandai Namco in conjunction with Capcom’s Street Fighter X Tekken, has officially been put on hold. The news was announced today by series directorย Katsuhiro Harada whoย told Gamespot in an interview thatย launching the crossover game now could fragment the communitiesย of Street Fighter 5 (which launched in February) and Tekken 7 (set to release later this year).
“A good window in which to release Tekken X Street Fighter is something that’s become difficult recently,” Harada said, adding that “it’s on hold for the moment.”
Tekken X Street Fighter was announced in 2010 when a partnership between Capcom and Bandai Namco happened. The agreement between the two companies allowed for the lending of each respective companies’ fighting game characters. Capcom led the way in 2012 with the release of Street Fighter X Tekken for the
Bandai Namco’s progress on its end of the partnership has been slow, even though Harada has had to assure fans that the game was coming. In the later part of last year, it was revealed that fan favorite Akuma from Street Fighter would be making his way into Tekken 7: Fated Retribution. The character would even bring along the Street Fighter EX meter with him.
Tekken 7 hasn’t been the only game that Bandai Namco has been working on. Earlier this year, the company released Pokken Tournament, which is a Pokemon fighting game released by a partnership between The Pokemon Company and Nintendo.
