Season of the Deep is less than a week away in Destiny 2, and Bungie has been announcing a slew of updates are about to come to the game. Today, it was revealed that many Exotic weapons would be reworked and buffed for the upcoming Season. However, at the end of the post, Destiny 2 announced that Sparrows will be updated so players can use their favorite choices without feeling forced to use the Always on Time Exotic Sparrow.

Weapon changes in Season 21:
💠 17 Exotic Weapon updates
💠 Weapon reticle updates + Experimental ADS reticle on Shayura's Wrath
💠 Inspection Screen Improvements: weapon rotation and ambient VFX
💠 Full auto melee option

Always on Time vs Other Sparrows in Destiny 2

For context, the Always on Time Exotic Sparrow was introduced back in Season Five with the Black Armory DLC, where it was a pinnacle reward hidden in the Scourge of the Past Raid. The Exotic perk allowed it to be the fastest sparrow in the game by a large margin and has continued to be the fastest for the past fifteen Seasons.

Needless to say, but players have quickly gotten tired of being “forced” to use it due to its speed when they would much rather use their other Sparrows with better designs and trails. It almost felt pointless for Bungie to continuously make Exotic Sparrows as rewards or for Eververse purposes, as the players knew it wouldn’t be faster than Always on Time. Finally, it seems Bungie is addressing players’ complaints and will update Sparrows in the future.

While they don’t come right out and say they’ll Nerf Always on Time, as they specifically mention they won’t touch it, it’s safe to assume this means they’ll bring all other Sparrows in line to make them just as fast or at least something of that nature. Unfortunately, they don’t mention a date for this update, only an “In the more distant future,” which means it won’t happen anytime soon.

Initial guesses could lead to the Mid-Season update or potentially not until the launch of Destiny 2 Season 22 update, which would be a bummer. Either way, it’s great to see Destiny 2 finally update Sparrows in some shape or form, as they’ve been one of the most significant pain points throughout the game’s history.
