In an effort to punish cheaters, From Software has released a patch for their flagship game Dark Souls III.ย Unfortunately, the patch isn’t working as intended, instead targeting innocent players.

The issue at hand involves certain tech-savvy players hacking the game when they invade a player’s world, allowing them to slay their opponent with ease. From Software issued the following statement regarding cheaters:

“We have heard your concerns about being victims of deviant behavior while playing online multiplayer, we have released a patch solving some of the issues you can encounter. Other updates will follow to continue this work, we will keep you posted in due times!”

The patch also contains several other fixes to Dark Souls III, such as an instance that has players transform into a dragon without any cause, players being recognized as visitors in their own world, and characters being sent Firelink Shrine. Shortly after the patch was launched and millions of players began reporting issues of freezing, From Software removed the patch and promised to re-upload it when it was fixed.

“The patch has been removed temporarily to fix the freeze issues. We hope to reinstate the patch ASAP. If you fall victim to one of the bugs previously fixed, donโ€™t worry, you wonโ€™t be penalized. We will keep you posted as soon as we have more info. Thank you for your understanding.”
