The Navigator in Destiny 2 and its Catalyst is one of the most sought-out new weapons added in Season 21, Season of the Deep. This Exotic Strand Trace Rifle has two interesting Perks. First, the Protective Weave can give the user the Woven Mail buff. Then the Weft Cutter will sever enemies through sustained damage. Not to mention that The Navigator Catalyst adds an additional unique feature that gives you more Grapple Tangle. If you want to get ahold of this new Strand weapon, here’s how to get The Navigator and its Catalyst in Destiny 2 Season 21.

The Navigator in Destiny 2 drops from the Ghost of the Deep Dungeon’s Final Encounter, Simmumah ur-Nokru. According to the Destiny 2 community, Exotics from Dungeons and Raids have a 5% drop rate after you have beaten the boss. That means the same rate should also apply to The Navigator as well. Nevertheless, the weapon’s drop rate can be increased by completing these five Season 21 Triumphs:

Triumph Prerequisite
Alone In The Deep Complete all Encounters in the Ghosts of the Deep Dungeon solo without leaving the Activity.
Deny Death Complete all Encounters in the Ghosts of the Deep Dungeon without dying or leaving the Activity.
King Of The Deep Complete all Encounters in the Ghosts of the Deep Dungeon solo without dying or leaving the Activity.
In Memoriam Find and listen to each Memory of Darkness throughout the Ghosts of the Deep Dungeon.
Sovereign Complete the Ghosts of the Deep Dungeon on Master difficulty.

Along with the Triumphs, getting The Navigator Catalyst in Destiny 2 Season 21 will also improve its drop rate. While no one knows for sure, it seems the Catalyst drop rate boost only applies for just one run. In case you need a refresher, below is the list of the Ghost of the Deep Dungeon loot pool. But, do keep in mind that Exotics can only drop once per week:

  • First Encounter/Boss (Hive Ritual)
    • No Survivors, Solar Submachine Gun
    • New Pacific Epitaph, Stasis Grenade Launcher
    • Cold Comfort, Stasis Rocket Launcher
  • Second Encounter/Boss (Ecthar, the Shield of Savathun)
    • No Survivors, Solar Submachine Gun
    • Greasy Luck, Solar Glaive
    • Cold Comfort, Stasis Rocket Launcher
  • Final Encounter/Boss (Simmumah ur-Nokru)
    • The Navigator, Strand Trace Rifle
    • No Survivors, Solar Submachine Gun
    • New Pacific Epitaph, Stasis Grenade Launcher
    • Greasy Luck, Solar Glaive
    • Cold Comfort, Stasis Rocket Launcher

How To Get The Navigator Catalyst

To obtain the Catalyst, you have to activate three Hive Statues, collect Vestiges of Light from dead Ghosts, and defeat a secret Lightbearer Acolyte boss. You don’t have to clear the Ghost of the Deep Dungeon at Master difficulty to unlock it, though. But the Catalyst can be applied after you have upgraded the weapon to Masterwork. Usually, it takes around 400 kills to achieve Masterwork.

The Navigator Catalyst gives the Destiny 2 weapon a special reload by holding down R. When you fire it, it will spawn a Grapple Tangle at the target location. This special move consumes 1 ammo, has a 30 seconds cooldown, and you can place more than one Grapple Tangle. They will disappear after around 30 seconds if not used. Below are the steps to get The Navigator Catalyst in Destiny 2 Season 21:

  1. Complete the Hive Ritual First Encounter.
  2. Go back to the bridge where you first spawn. Look for fallen trees covering a door into an underground area. Drop down and keep running to the end of a hallway to find a pile of dead Ghosts. Interact with it for the Vestige of Light, you have only 1 minute to drop it into the Hive Statue.
  3. The first statue can be found in the middle area, just behind large rocks. Bank the Vestige of Light.
  4. Thul-Ar, Acolyte of Nokris will spawn with three Wizards. Defeat the Wizard that has the same Hive symbol as Thul-Ar to obtain the Piercing Light buff. With it, you can destroy Thul-Ar’s Shield.
  5. Now continue with the Dungeon. You should be able to find the Statue before you get into the Second Encounter against Ecthar. It’s near the first secret chest after you’ve arrived at the underwater caves.
  6. To find the dead Ghosts, go past the doorway into a small cave. Look to your right and the Ghosts should be there. Head back and bank the Vestige of Light.
  7. Thul-Ar and his Wizards will appear again. Repeat the process.
  8. Beat Ecthar and keep going until you reach the place just before the Simmumah Final Encounter. You should arrive at the platforming puzzle.
  9. The Ghosts can be found on the platform on the right side. You should see it just beside a fallen lantern.
  10. Meanwhile, the third Hive statue is on the bigger platform above, near the place where the Ogre spawns. It is in front of the huge round window at the opposite end.
  11. Thul-Ar and his Wizards will appear again. Repeat the process to finally defeat him. If you bring along The Navigator, the chest should contain the Catalyst.
