Hello Commander. We’ve been expecting you.

Six months after its initial release on PC, XCOM 2 will be landing on your favorite current-gen consoles this Septemberber. After “briefing” players via Twitter, 2K and Firaxis Games made the exciting announcement.

Commander, your presence is requested for an important briefing at 3pm BST today. We have new #XCOM2 intel to share. pic.twitter.com/NlVbtk7Aib

XCOM 2 was the sequel to the award-winning XCOM reboot from 2012. 2016’s edition won a fair share of its own awards, sold very well, and was widely regarded as an improvement on its predecessor in almost every way.

Fans of the series and players of the first XCOM game remember how well it was “ported” to the XBOX 360 and PS3 about a year after its PC release. Both Firaxis and 2K said it was their intention to bring the sequel to consoles, but they needed to work on it separately from the PC version of the game. In the press release, they seem just as excited as fans will be to hear this news:

The incredible reception of XCOM 2 has been rewarding and humbling for the team, and we’ve known console fans have been clamoring to play the game too. – Jake Solomon, Creative Director – XCOM 2 at Firaxis Games

The game will be available in a standard $59.99USD edition, as well as a pre-ordered Digital Deluxe edition that will include bonus items, outfits, and DLC passes. No price was announced for the latter version. Currently, there are two cosmetic add-on packs for the PC version, as well as a DLC campaign pack Alien Hunters that sells for $10.99USD.

Console gamers will not want to miss this title. This time around your crew will be fighting the alien forces on earth, 20 years after they’ve taken over. On September 6th (North America) and 9th (internationally) of this year, you’ll be able to take the reigns as the Commander once again.
