After almost 30 years since its release, the cult classic game Gex is making a comeback. Recently, it was announced that all three Gex games will be returning through Limited Run Games. Pop culture fans should love this zany platformer series, and it’s great to see underappreciated games get more time in the spotlight. With Gex returning, this also opens the door for other companies to return more forgotten titles to the masses. More and more older games that are no longer available on modern consoles fade into obscurity every day. If these games were to get limited-run re-releases, more players could enjoy them. Here are 5 games that deserve to return as a limited run like Gex.

5. Glover

Glover is a game that deserves a limited run like Gex.

First up is the classic N64 title Glover. In this 3D platformer, players will take control of the glove, called Glover, maneuvering a ball throughout stages. This already presents a unique mechanic that was different from other platformers of the era. Although Glover was more underappreciated than games like Super Mario 64, it still has a sizable following.

Glover even received its own Steam port. However, this was met with mixed reviews. Seeing Glover return to home consoles would be a great experience for the character. Though Glover never took off originally, it would be nice to see the franchise get a second chance. In the end, if Glover were to get a limited release like Gex, maybe more fans could experience the charming platformer.

4. Super Paper Mario

Super Paper Mario would be a great game to get a limited run and re-release.

Out of any Paper Mario game, Super Paper Mario takes the series in the strangest direction. While previous games were full-on RPGs, Super Paper Mario is more of an ARPG. Instead of turn-based combat, Mario and his friends will need to attack enemies in real-time. While some weren’t happy with the change, Super Paper Mario is a great game in its own right.

However, like many of the series’ other games, there is no news for a Super Paper Mario release or remaster. With Origami King‘s release bringing the Paper Mario games to their turn-based roots, Super Paper Mario should return with a limited run like Gex. In a way, it could exist as a contrast of where the series has been throughout the years.

3. Ultima

Classic NES Ultima games would be perfect for a limited run.

Another RPG that could use a limited return akin to Gex is Ultima. Ultima is a series of fantasy role-playing games first released in the 70s. Overall, the series is considered one of the games that set the status quo for computer RPGs. Additionally, the series also had some great releases for the NES.

It would be great to see some of the NES Ultima entries make a return. Many old RPGs still see a lot of success, though sadly, Ultima isn’t as fortunate. With a re-release, Ultima may reach the level of fame and popularity it truly deserves.

2. Croc: Legend of the Gobbos

Croc deserves a second chance.

Next up, Croc: Legend of the Gobbos is another classic 3D platformer that has faded into obscurity. Though it wasn’t the best game in the world, Croc has its fans, even developing a bit of a cult following. The game’s platforming can be a bit rough around the edges at times, though overall, the game is a fun experience.

In a way, Croc falls into the same category of lesser-known 3D platformers as Gex. Seeing a limited re-release after Gex isn’t far outside the realm of possibility. An HD remaster of Croc has also been teased as well, so players will have to wait and see what the future has to offer.

1. Diddy Kong Racing

Finally, Diddy Kong Racing deserves a limited re-release like Gex. Diddy Kong Racing is a kart racing game on N64. The underappreciated game features Diddy Kong, from Donkey Kong Country, racing against his many friends. Additionally, Rare characters like Banjo and Conker were also featured as playable characters.

The game features awesome maps and multiple three modes of racing. Players can race in karts, planes, or hovercrafts, giving a lot of variety to every match. For some, Diddy Kong Racing was a more enjoyable experience than Mario Kart 64. Although the game has a few licensing issues, it would be great if the game ever does get the chance to come back.
