At this rate, it seems as though the cast ofย Spider-Man: Homecomingย will continue growing until opening day.ย Several of the additions to Peter Parkerโs (Tom Holland) high school class have been relative unknowns. However, that group received a fantastic new addition today in Angourie Rice. Rice recently portrayed Holly March in Shane Blackโs fantastic summer comedyย The Nice Guys. Acting opposite Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe is certainly no easy feat. However, Angourie Rice completely blew expectations away with her hilarious turn as Goslingโs vastly more intelligent daughter. In fact, given the nature of that role, Riceโs casting here potentially bodes something very exciting.
Essentially every supporting cast member ofย Spider-Man: Homecomingย has been given a secret role. So far, it has been unclear whether or not the film will be re-using Spider-Manโs classic classmates. Pop star Zendaya has reportedly been given the love interest role. The studio has claimed her charactersโ name is Michelle, although many believe that to be an alias. However, she doesnโt really fit the description of Mary Jane Watson or Gwen Stacy.
Angourie Rice, on the other hand, absolutely fits the bill for Gwen Stacy. Not only does she resemble Gwen (although sheโd have to go a bit blonder) but sheโs a great choice. The plucky wit and intelligence that she brought to Holly are exactly what a character like Gwen needs. Sheโd be inheriting the role from Emma Stone, who played the character twice in theย Amazing Spider-Manย series. However, itโll be difficult to know for sure until concrete character announcements are made. Expect a few of those at the Marvel Comic-Con panel in just a couple of weeks. In the meantime, Rice simply makes for another addition to a cast that is turning out to be pretty amazing indeed.
