Tears of The Kingdom has hit an impressive milestone, selling more than 18 million copies in just two months since its release. It’s Nintendo’s biggest win of the year by far and a reassurance that no matter what year it is, the company’s titanic series like Zelda and Mario will never lose their luster. The game has not only sold incredibly well but has won over critics too. Tears of the Kingdom is certain to be a favorite when Game of the Year awards start rolling around.ย

18 million is an incredible number for Tears of the Kingdom to have reached, and it’s partly due to the overwhelming success of Breath of the Wild. With such a dedicated fanbase for the Zelda franchise, anything bearing the name will sell well. But when it comes to Breath of the Wild, it was already a Game of the Year winner, so no matter the quality of Tears of the Kingdom, that built-in player base was already there.ย

Of course,ย the game is amazing and improves upon its predecessor in every way. Nintendo has seen a massive profit here, and Tears of the Kingdom has accounted for half of the company’sย first-party releases for 2023. In a year that has become increasingly crowded with amazing games dropping monthly, for Tears of the Kingdom to reign supreme is most impressive.ย

Nintendo has released itsย upcoming gaming schedule, and they aren’t content with just one mega-franchise release in 2023, as Super Mario Bros. Wonder and Super Mario RPG are set to release in October and November. Although it appears to be the swansong for the Switch seeing as the Switch 2 is on the horizon in 2024, it’s going out as strong as it possibly can.ย
