If there’s one thing we know about superhero games, they’re usually full of non-stop, fast-paced action. While this is usually an exciting feature of the game, since everyone loves seeing their favorite hero beat up villains or run away from explosions, it’s not always good news in terms of accessibility options. Thankfully,ย Insomniac Gamesย has recognized the clash between action and accessibility and are taking steps to bridge the gap. In a recent announcement, Insomniac revealed thatย Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, set toย release in October, will include an accessibility feature that lets players slow down the game a considerable amount, thus allowing everyone to enjoy the game with less frustration.

Insomniac isn’t the first game company to think of slowing down the fast-paced action present in most video games. Respawn, the creators behindย Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, included an option to enable “Slow Mode,” which gives players more time to solve puzzles and do parkour. The feature was initially developed to help players in combat but became a valuable accessibility feature when it was implemented to make the game’s parkour puzzles a little easier for players that wished for a little more reaction time.

In a similar vein, Insomniac Games has reportedly added an accessibility feature toย Marvel’s Spider-Man 2ย that allows players to slow down time. The new feature can slow down the game to 30, 50, or 70% of its normal speed, with the slow-down settings able to be changed at any time. While the reveal of this particular feature is new, players familiar with the firstย Marvel’s Spider-Manย may remember having the option to skip over the puzzles in Dr. Octavius’ lab, including the timed ones.

Overall, Insomniac has attributed its push for more accessibility options to a mission to make its games more enjoyable for wider audiences rather than only the “elite gamer” crowd.ย Marvel’s Spider-Man 2ย is one of theย most anticipated releases of the yearย โ€” so much so that it’s even got its own PS5 โ€” and it’s exciting to see these new accessibility options put in to ensure everyone can enjoy the game at their own speed.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will release for the PlayStation 5 on October 20th, 2023.
