What Is DMZ in Call of Duty?

Whereas the mainline Call of Duty games feature a robust campaign and multiplayer options, Warzone centers primarily on battle-royal gameplay. Players are stranded in a secluded area and must face off against others. The playable area gets smaller the longer a match lasts.

A player dies if found outside the play area after the time limit. As the play area shrinks, the surviving players are likelier to face each other. The goal in Warzone is to be the last man or team standing.

DMZ is an extension of the battle royale gameplay in Call of Duty: Warzone 2. The DMZ mode is about extracting as much loot as you can find in the Exclusion Zone. You start with limited inventory space. Players can expand the inventory by completing Faction missions. You will fight against other players and AI-controlled soldiers during DMZ.

Will DMZ be in Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3?

The status of DMZ returning for MW3 is up in the air at this time. A DMZ mode was not described as being part of MW3 at launch. However, it’s been clarified that many features from Warzone 2, including weapon camos and attachments, will carry over. Several weapons are exclusive rewards in DMZ matches in Warzone 2.

Even though DMZ is popular among fans, there have been complaints that the mode is easy to exploit. Skilled players who have played the mode multiple times know where the loot is and would camp the area to deter others from getting it. Activision and Infinity Ward have yet to find a workaround to prevent this exploit other than forcing players to complete Faction missions to unlock specific loot.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will include a new Zombies mode that will be part of the Dark Aether storyline. The new Zombies mode will incorporate elements from DMZ, including players-versus-environment (PvE) extraction. MW3’s Zombie mode will be an open-world experience in contrast to previous Zombie modes.
