In addition to the story and faction missions, you can also complete a bunch of side quests that are no less interesting and offer generous rewards. You can start one of them in Akila City if you help the local guards solve security issues. This guide will show you how to complete Defensive Measures in Starfield. The quest is not difficult, as you won’t need to fight or hide from anyone. Following our instructions, the task will take you no more than 10 minutes to complete.

To access the Defensive Measures side quest in Starfield, you must travel to Akila City. It is located on the planet Akila in the Cheyenne system. Once you get there, you’ll have to find Davis, Bailey, and Keoni arguing about the safety of Akila in case of an attack by the Ashta, the enemy creatures outside the city. These characters are located not far from the entrance, so that’s where you need to go:

  1. Go through the main gate.
  2. After walking a little further, you will notice Shepherd’s General Store on the left.
  3. Walk past the store and turn left.
  4. Continue walking until you see a small stone staircase.
  5. Go up the stairs, and you will see the NPCs.

As soon as you get closer, it will automatically start the quest, and you can proceed to complete it.

Talk to Both Sides of the Conflict

The first task of this mission is to talk to Davis, who has been responsible for the security of Akila City for over 70 years. He tells you that he disagrees with Keoni because she wants to add innovative technologies to protect the city. In his opinion, she has no experience, and her actions could negatively affect the safety of the city’s residents. He does not support her idea because he believes that his methods of defense have proven effective for decades.

After listening to him, you can choose a few more options to discuss, but they will not affect the development of the mission plot. After you finish the conversation with him, your next goal will be to talk to the newcomer innovator, Keoni. Finding her is easy, as the quest marker will lead you to the correct location. If your quest marker doesn’t work, we recommend going to the menu and selecting the mission as the tracked one, and then everything should work.

When you find Keoni, you can start a dialog with her. You will hear an entirely different perspective on the situation and realize that her idea is not so bad. She is a good scientist and does not wish to change Davis’s longstanding work but only to improve the current methods of protecting the city. Keoni will assign you a task, asking you to place 4 sensors in The Stretch, which she says is to get information. Luckily, this task won’t take you long to complete, and we’ll show you how to do it below.

Just follow the quest markers to The Stretch and place them in the marked spots. Once you’ve done that, you’ll need to talk to Keoni again to report back on your progress. After talking to her, you learn that the last thing left to do is to make a few changes to the terminal inside the guard tower. Keoni can do this on her own, but you’ll need to distract the guard while she configures all the necessary data in the terminal.

Fortunately, distracting the guard is not difficult, and there are several methods you can use, namely:

  • Commit a crime: Steal something in front of the guard so that he will try to catch you. Just run as far as you can to avoid going to jail or paying a fine.
  • Persuade the guard: If your Persuasion skill is leveled up enough, you won’t have any problems.
  • Introduce yourself as Freestar Ranger: If you have completed the Deputized quest and become a ranger, you can ask the guard to leave. Given your authority, he will not have any doubts.
  • Bribe: The best option if you are not a Freestar Ranger: For just 1,000 credits, you will reach the desired goal.

Once you’ve done that, the last thing you’ll have to do is talk to Keoni again. She will thank you and give you a small reward of credits and XP. It’s also worth noting that if you complete all the missions in this line of quests, you will receive a legendary weapon – the Despondent Assassin.

Now you know how to complete the Defensive Measures quest in Starfield, and we hope you won’t face any difficulties during this mission.
