2023 has already been loaded with major releases for the Nintendo Switch. Games like Pikmin 4 and Octophath Traveler 2 were released to critical acclaim and Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom rapidly became one of the best-selling titles of the year.
That doesn’t mean Nintendo is about to phone it in for the remainder of the year, though, and for a lot of fans, the best may still be yet to come. There are a lot of games coming to Nintendo Switch in the fall/winter seasons in 2023 that are set to blow people away, and the hype should definitely start building now.
Super Mario Bros. Wonder
The return of the 2D Mario format should hype up any fan of the iconic platformer series. There hasn’t been an original 2D entry to the series since New Super Mario Bros. U back in 2012, although the Super Mario Maker games have kept the format alive and thriving for many. It seems like Nintendo wants to up the ante on the crazy designs found in Super Mario Maker by loading up Super Mario Bros. Wonder with a ton of new features never seen before.
Super Mario Bros. Wonder is launching for Nintendo Switch on October 20th.
Hogwarts Legacy Switch Port
The highest-selling game of the year, the magical Hogwarts Legacy, has sadly been unavailable to Switch-only gamers. That’s all changing with the announcement of the Wizarding World smash hit getting a Switch release date for this fall. Players seem a bit skeptical about how the game’s performance will be on the Switch given the fact that Hogwarts Legacy is no small title and the Switch has had some pretty notable problems with graphics-heavy games in the past. Hopefully, it comes out running smoothly and Switch owners will have a good experience playing around in the magical world for the first time.
Hogwarts Legacy is coming to Nintendo Switch on November 14th.
Detective Pikachu Returns
The Detective Pikachu Pokemon spin-off series has been surprisingly quiet in recent years considering the wild success of the American-made Detective Pikachu movie from 2019 starring Ryan Renolds and Justice Smith. Thankfully, the series is finally coming back with a follow-up to the strange and surprising original 3DS game from 2016 with Detective Pikachu Returns. It seems like it could be a large step up from its predecessor, and if there’s any chance this also signals the Detective Pikachu 2 film sequel arriving at some point soon, then there’s more than enough reason to get hyped.

Batman Arkham Trilogy
The Batman Arkham series of games is one of the most appreciated and critically acclaimed of the two generations that preceded the Switch. Rocksteady reinvented how developers approach story-driven action games while simultaneously creating arguably the best superhero video game franchise to date. Those games have tragically missed most Nintendo consoles, with only the second title Arkham City getting a Wii U release. That’s all changing with the release of the full trilogy on the Nintendo Switch this year.
Batman Arkham Trilogy is coming to Nintendo Switch on October 13th.
Super Mario RPG
It seems like Nintendo is making a mad dash to get as many of the famous Mario RPGs as possible on the Switch. With N64’s Paper Mario and Paper Mario: The Origami King already being available alongside the announcement of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door and now Super Mario RPG also making their way to the Switch soon, the console is proving itself to be a standout for JRPG fans.

Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection
It’s been sadly quiet from the Metal Gear Solid franchise for some time. Hideo Kojima’s infuriating lay-off from Konami has proven to be a major mistake for the developer, with fans remaining loyal to Kojima and 2018’s Metal Gear Survive tanking as a result. Maybe there won’t ever be a masterful new MGS game again as Kojima moves on to new and exciting projects, but fans new and old who want to experience those original games will be able to on the Switch very soon.
Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection is coming to Nintendo Switch on October 24th.
