What Is a Wildcard Contract Hunt: Showdown? Explained

Get ready for something wild

While most games lose their player base over time, Hunt: Showdown only continues to grow. Even now, five years after launch, the extraction shooter is at an all-time high! This is thanks, in part, to the plethora of events and updates that Crytek is constantly pushing out. One of the more recent updates has introduced an entirely new mechanic- wildcard contracts. Read on to discover what exactly a Hunt: Showdown wildcard contract is, and why it’s important to you.

Wildcard contracts are typically associated with limited-time events, such as the ongoing ‘Tide of Corruption’ event. Whereas standard contracts are your run-of-the-mill bayou experience, these unique contracts involve some sort of world modification that impacts gameplay. Sometimes the actual ramifications of said wildcard are negligible, while other contracts will truly force players to adapt.

The Hunt: Showdown wildcard contract, ‘Dark Inferno,’ is one of its best. The official update log says the following:

“With this update, we’re bringing the Inferno back! This time, the flames will be featured in a nighttime setting. There will be certain areas on all maps that are on fire, and you will need to strategize your gameplay based on that.”

If you weren’t around for Hunt: Showdown’s previous inferno wildcard, you are in for a treat. Crytek isn’t lying when it proclaims that you will need to strategize your gameplay based on the flames. The roaring fires will ignite nearby explosives, drown out audio, and block off many important routes! Furthermore, there will only be a single boss target per wildcard contract, so matches are action-packed.

Of course, keep in mind that the Hunt: Showdown’s wildcard contracts are completely optional. If you prefer to stick with the classic bounty hunt, you are free to do so. However, if you intend to grind the ‘Tide of Corruptions’ event, playing the wildcard contract may be in your best interest, as successful extractions reward players with an additional 300XP.

The ‘Tide of Corruptions’ event began on October 4th and ends on November 29th.
