In act 3, Shadowheart needs to make an important choice in House of Grief. Regardless of what storyline you’ve developed for her, there will be a difficult choice at the end, whether Shadowheart should save or kill her parents in Baldur’s Gate 3. Each decision has its own consequences, and they vary considerably, so read our guide to find out which one sounds best to you.

Let’s start with a simpler choice, which will be almost the same for both the Shar and Selune paths. So, if you decide to save Shadowheart’s parents, they will return to the camp and be with their daughter.

The curse that is imposed on Shadowheart will not disappear, and she continues to suffer from its effects every night. Regardless, she will feel much better being with her parents, as both her father and mother support and advise her despite their poor health.

You can also try to continue your romance with Shadowheart, and after talking to her, you will find out that she wants to live with her parents somewhere in a quiet house. Even though Jenevelle Hallowleaf (her real name) is still cursed by Shar, she is happy to have you and her parents around, and it reduces her suffering considerably.

So, if you did kill Nightsong and Shadowheart went the Dark Justiciar route, this choice can dramatically change the course of the story. The fact is that after you reach the House of Grief, Shar will offer Shadowheart to become her right hand, but this requires killing her parents.

Having partially returned Shadowheart’s memories, she will wait for the last decision. When Shadowheart finally kills her parents, she will automatically make a deal with the goddess, becoming one of the ruling elite of Shar and can control the Justiciars who will help you in the final battle.

After the brutal murder, Shadowheart will completely forget what happened and will not believe you if you talk about it. Yes, she has become much stronger and more powerful, but if you want to have an affair, it will not work out because of her loyalty to Lady Shar.

An identical choice, but if you haven’t killed Nightsong before, it will change the consequences significantly. Now, if Shadowheart kills her parents, she will be freed from the burden of Shar forever. Even Shadowheart’s own parents are asking her to do this for her own sake.

So, if you decide to do this, you will remove the curse from Jenevelle Hallowleaf, but not the eternal longing for her parents. Fortunately, it’s not all bad because her father and mother will always be with her in the form of Moonmotes.

This choice will best affect your romantic relationship with her. After losing her parents, Shadowheart will be very upset, but she will see you as the person she would like to spend the rest of her life with.
