This article is over 1 years old and may contain outdated information.

If there is one thing that remains constant across most Mario games, it’s the concept of an infinite 1-Up trick. Though generally more of an exploit than a trick, the 1-Up trick allows players to infinitely farm lives, making any Mario entry a much easier challenge. Recently, players have discovered a way to perform the infinite 1-Up trick in the newest 2D Mario entry, Super Mario Bros Wonder. Though Wonder is fairly easy and accessible to most players, reaching that 99 life goal is a satisfying achievement to some. For anyone curious, here is a quick look at Super Mario Bros Wonder’s infinite 1-Up trick.

As far as infinite 1-Up tricks are concerned, generally, they follow a similar pattern. Most of these tricks involve setting up a scenario where Mario can infinitely jump on an enemy to indefinitely gain lives. One of the most famous examples, known as Turtle Tipping, involves bouncing off of a Koopa shell on a staircase with pinpoint timing. By doing this correctly, you can rack up a ton of lives in games dating as far back as the original Super Mario Bros. Now, Super Mario Bros Wonder continues this infinite 1-Up trick tradition with an exploit that can be performed in multiple areas throughout the game.

Super Mario Bros Wonder’s Infinite 1-Up Trick

For this Super Mario Bros Wonder infinite 1-Up trick to work, we are going to take advantage of the newest playable character in the 2D Mario series, Yoshi. Yoshi, who can flutter kick to stall in the air, is perfect for creating longer jump combos and making infinite combos where none would normally exist. YouTuber AbdallahSmash points out one such scenario in the level, Pole Block Passage. By setting up four Koopa shells in a small area at the level’s Koopa spawner, AbdallahSmash shows that by jumping on each Koopa and stalling the air after each jump, you’ll have just enough time to land on the first Koopa after it re-emerges from its shell. Though it takes a little bit of time, this infinite combo is a fairly easy way to get as many lives as you need.

A Faster More Challenging Example

This Super Mario Wonder trick is a bit harder.

For fans looking for another Super Mario Bros Wonder infinite 1-Up trick, and a more classic example of Turtle Tipping, there are a few places you can set up the strategy. The best example, as shown by YouTuber BeardBear comes in the level Condarts Away in the second world. In this level, players should find a small hole filled with breakable blocks near a Koopa. Afterwards, by breaking three blocks and leaving the remainder in a shape like a T-Tetromino, you can now place the Koopa on the edge of the block and start tipping turtles. Although a bit harder, this method is a lot faster than the Yoshi strategy.

Though in my experience with Super Mario Bros Wonder, I earned 99 lives naturally through gameplay, these glitches are still fun to pull off and bring back classic memories of schoolyard rumors of secret Mario techniques. While so much has changed in the 2D Mario series, these fun tricks will always be a constant for the series.
