This article is over 1 years old and may contain outdated information.

As Dwarves are well-known for their expertise in mining and crafting, farming isn’t the first profession you expect to find them doing in Middle Earth, especially in the dangerous mines of Moria. However, without the proper grub to fuel their bearded, brawny bodies, even this brave race won’t stand a chance against an ancient evil that lurks in deep caves. Mastering farming is essential for survival, meaning knowing how to grow plants is vital knowledge for every adventurer in Return to Moria.

So, before you start growing plants, you need to take care of a few factors without which farming is impossible, namely:

  • Place for growing.
  • Seeds of plants.
  • Lighting.

Let’s start with a growing place. To grow plants, you’ll need a Farm Patch or Farm Box, but you won’t get access to them right away, so you’ll have to go down to the Lower Deeps and kill the bat to collect loot from it. When you do, you can craft the items using the following recipes:

Farm Box

  • Bat Droppings: x6
  • Ihraz Granite: x10

Farm Patch

  • Bat Droppings: x2
  • Ihraz Granite: x3

If you have just started playing and do not have access to these items, you can use an alternative, namely farm plots, which are located around the world. We have noticed that in most cases, they are located near dwarven settlements, but we also found such places in Western Halls and not far from Elven Quarter, near the ruined house, if you go to the mines.

So, when you finally have some space to grow, the next step is to find the seeds. Luckily, it’s not hard to obtain, as you can often see them right on the ground in white bags. As with the farm plot, you can also find seeds in dwarf settlements, so take advantage of that to get your starting materials.

When you find the seeds you want, the last thing to do is to take care of the lighting. The fact is that not all plants will grow in the light, and in general, seeds can be divided into two categories:

  • Dark Crops.
  • Light Crops.

Some plants, such as mushrooms, don’t need light to grow, so take this into account when you start farming. Pay attention to the Farm Patch when you place it in the desired location. Above it, you will notice a white sun icon in the form of a circle. If the circle is completely white, it means that you need to grow Light Crops, and if it is only half-filled with white, then Dark Crops. Here are the plants we found and the lighting they need to grow:

Once you have dealt with all three preparation points, you can finally start growing your plants. It is not difficult to do, and we have described all the necessary steps below.

So, when you have everything ready, you can start growing plants. It’s not hard to do. Here are the steps to follow:

  • Go to the farm plot where you want to plant the seeds.
  • Choose the desired seed, making sure to plant it under the right lighting conditions; otherwise, it will not grow.
  • Press the interaction button to plant the seed.

Now all you have to do is wait for the plant to grow. In general, you can harvest in a day but only one fruit. If you wait longer, you can get as many as 4 fruits. To reduce the time, you can complete some other tasks or just sleep. It’s also worth noting that you can uproot the planted seeds if you change your mind about growing them. To achieve this, just go to the farm plot where you planted the crop, and you will see the Uproot option. Perform the action to make room in the farm plot for a new crop, but note that you will lose the seeds of the one you uprooted.
