The Argentavis is a highly underrated tame in Ark: Survival Ascended, as well as one that you don’t want to miss out on. The great eagle-like creature may be slow in comparison to many other flying creatures, but it definitely has its advantages. The Argentavis boasts impressive carrying weight and seemingly endless Stamina. Not to mention, it has an innate buff for carrying weight for resources like Metal, Obsidian, and Crystal. However, the Ark: Survival Ascended Argentavis creature isn’t the easiest to tame and requires some tact regarding how you capture and knock it out.
Best Way to Capture and Tame an Argentavis in Ark: Survival Ascended
Capturing an Argentavis is no easy feat. and it will require you to create a special trap for it, unlike any that are required for larger animals, since it’s big enough that a Bola won’t work on it. Before you head out to take on and attempt to tame an Argentavis, you should have the following resources and structures:
- 5-7x Wood Gateways
- 2x Wood Gateway Door
- Crossbow or Longneck Rifle
- Tranq Arrows or Tranq Darts
- Raw Meat

- Place down your Wood Gateways
Each gateway should parallel the previous, creating a “hallway” of dinosaur gateways. You should place at least five of them, with gaps between the sides just big enough for your character to slip through, but not a dinosaur.
- Add doors
After you’ve constructed your “Gateway Hallway” it’s time to add doors. You might have noticed that I said you only need two doors rather than an adequate amount to match the number of gateways you have. Put Wood Dinosaur Gates on the first and last gateways so that the trap can be closed off entirely.
- Lure the Argentavis into your trap
Once you’ve got your trap constructed, it’s time to lure the beast. Cause the Argentavis to aggro on you, then open up one of the door and head inside. Once you’ve lured the Argentavis into the trap, run out through one of the gaps in the side of your trap and quickly close the door before it has time to escape.
- Knock out and feed the Argentavis
With the Argentavis now helpless in your carefully constructed Ark: Survival Ascended trap, start shooting at it with either Tranq Arrow or Tranq Darts. Space out your shots by 30 seconds to give the Narcotics time to raise the creature’s torpor, and when it’s finally down, throw some Raw Meat in its inventory.
